Rimuru POV

"This is where you live?" I tried to keep my voice steady, but the sight in front of me was a bit overwhelming. The house looked like it had seen better days; the walls were more crack than brick, and patches of mismatched materials made it look like a patchwork quilt gone wrong. It definitely seemed like a strong gust of wind could send the whole thing tumbling down.

Loid, however, seemed completely unfazed. He was practically bouncing on his feet as he led me to the door and chatted away about his life. Turns out he was five - technically older than my current body.

"We all pitch in," he continued, animating his arms as he spoke. "Do odd jobs around town, you know? It's not much, but it keeps us fed. Most days, anyway."

"I'm back!"

With a gentle creak, we stepped inside, and I was taken aback by how clean the interior was. It had an inviting feel, even though most of the furniture looked like it was one good sneeze away from falling apart.

"Look who finally made it back!" a girl's voice broke through the air, and suddenly a redhead came rushing over, her fierce red eyes trained on Loid. She looked to be around ten, and her energy was palpable. "Where have you been? I told you not to be late! Did they give you trouble?"

"Chill, Kyla, he's fine!" a boy chimed in, stepping forward. This kid mirrored Kyla in looks, with the same wild red hair and red eyes. Twins, I figured. He caught sight of me and suddenly turned his full attention my way, giving me a quick once-over like I was some curiosity.

Kyla's protective instincts seemed to flicker before she noticed me. "Oh! Sorry about that." Her demeanor shifted, a hint of embarrassment creeping in. "I was just so worried about Loid that I didn't even notice you. I'm Kyla Flandier," she introduced herself, extending her hand.

"Rimuru Leywin," I replied, giving her hand a firm shake. Then her brother stepped up, his eyes bright with curiosity.

"Kyle Flandier," he said, nodding at me. "So, what brings you to our humble abode?"
