"I can't believe the conference was canceled" Ruth muttered and shook her head. We had gotten here a while ago and met the door of the hall locked with a note pasted on it.
I didn't bother saying anything in response as we both walked away. My arm was over her shoulder while she held my waist in support. A whimper left my lips when I pressed my bad foot too hard on the ground, she immediately held me up and halted, "I think we should go to the clinic and get that checked, it seems it's getting worse" she said, her gaze fixated on my bad ankle.
A nervous laugh escaped my lips and I shook my head. "There's no need to go through all that stress, it'd be okay once I sleep and wake up. You don't..." I didn't get to complete my sentence because someone unexpectedly bumped into me, and nearly sent Ruth and I tumbling to the ground.
"Watch it!" a high-pitched feminine voice snapped, and I immediately turned to the girl with furrowed brows. Her hands were folded beneath her chest and she stared down at us with a glare, not looking even a bit apologetic for bumping into us.
"I think you are the one that needs to watch it, Mary" Ruth snapped from beside me.
The girl scoffed at Ruth's statement, and strutted closer to us with a smirk on her face, "were you referring to me just now, Ruth?" She sneered and I shuddered at the anger in her voice. I thought Zadkiel said there were no reports of bullying. "Would you mind repeating what you just said? I dare you to repeat that you lousy..."
"That's enough!" Someone interrupted from nowhere, and I immediately turned towards the direction of the voice, and it was yet another girl. She sighed and walked closer to us, "that's enough, Mary." She said the moment she was just a few steps away from us.
"Are you guys okay?" She turned towards us and my eyes widened slightly when I realized how pretty she was. I knew black people were beautiful, but she was on a whole different dimension, she looked like a real-life doll.
I immediately nodded my head when I realized she was still staring at me expectantly, "good." She turned back to Mary, who now looked scared, and that had me frowning. "Mary, I expect you to write two apology letters addressed to them by tomorrow and a statement of misconduct at the student council room before classes start, tomorrow. Failure to do so will warrant a more severe disciplinary measure from the student council. Is that clear?" She asked in a calm and cool tone, but Mary looked like she was going to pee on herself as she bobbed her head.
"Yes, Vice-president"
"You can go now" Mary immediately bobbed her head and ran off, leaving us alone. "I apologize on her behalf for what happened"
"What happened?" another voice asked out of nowhere and I bit back a groan. Do people randomly pop up from nowhere in this school? I turned in annoyance toward the direction of the voice, but my annoyance soon dissipated and was replaced with surprise.
Two boys strutted towards us. One looked a lot like the girl and the other was... "Zadkiel?" I called out without thinking twice and a drop-dead silence followed. Ruth's hand on my waist stiffened all of a sudden, and the boy that was walking with Zadkiel had his mouth wide open in shock.
"What did you just call him?" The other dude asked after a while and I chuckled nervously in response. His eyes darted repeatedly from me to Zadkiel, who looked bored, "did she just call you by your name?" He asked Zadkiel but he just rolled his eyes.
The dude immediately walked over to me and began staring at my face while rubbing his jaw, "she's a new student, that's why. She probably thinks everyone calls him that!" He exclaimed and the two girls beside me let out a breath, I even felt Ruth's hand relax, and that only confused me even more.
