FLASHBACK

"What if there was a way for you to avoid going back with your parents?" Ruth asked in the middle of what I assumed would be a relaxing date.

We had turned our room into a spa. Ruth brought out all her skincare products and equipment, they were so much I thought she was about to open a spa; which, technically she did. We doused ourselves in different products, offered each other massages and were now sprawled out on my bed with our robes on and face masks on our faces.

I'd asked her where she got and learnt all that from and she jokingly said, "my Dad is my sugar daddy and my mum has always been in her soft girl era. She got me into the soft world and my dad funds it" we both had laughed over that, though I had no doubts she was saying the truth.

True to her words, her world was a world of fun and I had found myself relaxing. The stress of the past few days had successfully slipped out of my body and I was relaxed, that was until she brought that question up.

"They're no way for me to avoid going with them unless I tell Miss Gloria the truth, which I honestly think she wouldn't believe," I said with a slight shrug.

A few seconds of silence passed before Jophiel sprang up from the bed. "That's it, Jophy!" She exclaimed,  "We'd tell Miss Gloria the truth! And then..." I sighed and was already ready to dismiss her idea when I heard the whisper of the Holy Spirit.

"Listen" My brows furrowed at the sudden instruction, but it got me interested in what Ruth had to say.

"We are going to head over to Miss Gloria's office tomorrow morning and we are going to tell her everything" I sat up and slowly removed the mask from my face, "nooo! It's not yet time" she whisper-yelled once the mask was off and I gave her a sheepish smile. She shook her head and with a deep sigh, removed her mask as well.

"Anyway, back to what I was saying. Once we tell Miss Gloria everything, she would not let you go with them. She prioritizes the safety and well-being of her students"

"And if she doesn't believe me?"

Her lips curled into a smirk and she scooted closer to me with two of her fingers raised, "that's when plan number two comes" she said in a hushed tone and I raised both brows. "We'd let you go, quite alright but... Just like in the movies, you'd have a tracker and maybe a recorder attached to you, then Miss Gloria would see that you weren't lying and she'd fight tooth and nail to make sure you are back here safely"

I let out a laugh when she was done and collapsed back on the bed. "Well, it was worth listening to. But life doesn't always work the way movies do, Ruthie.  If I step out of this school with a tracker or a recorder on, the chances of them finding out are 100%"  Ruth's face fell as I brushed the idea off and Yeshua's instruction to listen to her flashed through my mind and I exhaled softly. "It's worth a shot tho, we'd talk to Miss Gloria tomorrow morning"

Her face immediately lit up with a big grin and she engulfed me in a hug, "Thank you! Thank you! I know the plan will work. I'd fight tooth and nail to make sure you study and graduate from this school, safe and sound" I let out a soft breath and nodded.

"I know you would" I affirmed and we spent the rest of the night, relaxing and talking, while the thought and possibilities of what could happen the next day lingered in our minds.

The next day, we skipped our breakfast and rushed over to Miss Gloria's office. "Ruth, Jophiel. Is everything okay?" She had asked the moment we walked into her office. We both exchanged glances before we shook our heads. She drew back a little before she gestured to the guest chairs and asked us to take a seat, "let's hear the problem"

We both immediately got seated. "Yeshua, please help me" I muttered. I took a deep breath and faced her with a small smile, "It's about the reason I ran away from home, I want to tell you everything" She glanced at Ruth, then back at me. She relaxed against her chair and exhaled loudly, before bobbing her head softly.

"Go ahead, I'm all ears," she said and without missing a beat I told her everything. The homeschooling, being raped, the beatings, everything. I told her all about it and as I progressed my mind was made up. I was going to stay. I was going to free myself from them no matter what it takes. Even if Miss Gloria doesn't believe me.

"Miss Gloria" I called out when I was done telling her everything, "this is my story and it'd be nice if you believe me but if you don't..."

"I believe you" She cut in before I could finish my sentence. "No one can make up something so gruesome and claim they went through that. I have also seen the way you are around them, so I  wholeheartedly believe you and I'd make sure that you are kept safe and sound in this school"

Ruth immediately held my hand and squealed, my lips curled up in a smile and I squeezed her hand because I know my next words would sting. "Thank you, Miss Gloria but I want to go with the second option"

Silence immediately settled in the room and I could feel  Ruth's gaze boring into the side of my head. I gulped and refused to face her because I knew if I did my resolve might break. "You don't mean this, Jophiel" Ruth's voice shook and I squeezed her hand even more. I'd thought of it all night,
and I found myself whispering prayers now and then. Now, that I was seated there facing Miss Gloria, my mind was made and I had no doubts Yeshua had my back.

"And what is this second option?"

"She doesn't mean it, Miss Gloria" she shook me lightly, "tell her you don't mean it, Jophy. Come on"

I lowered my gaze and let out a shaky breath, "Yeshua, please tell me if I'm wrong, please"

"In every situation, I have already gone ahead of you, Jophiel. Go on, I'm with you" That reassurance was all it took and I went over the plan again with Miss Gloria, and by the time I was done, she had the same look and stance as Ruth.

For an hour, we sat in the office going back and forth, and finally, Yeshua won, as always. Miss Gloria dismissed us when she realized it was time for class and asked us to come back after school to discuss it further.

And for the rest of the day, Ruth and I avoided each other till it was time to meet up in the principal's office. "Jophiel," she started as we stood before the door, "I don't know why you've decided to do this, I'm hurt and disappointed to be very honest but on the other hand, I support you and I want you to be safe, Jophiel. Please" and for the second time since I'd known, I saw her breakdown again, because of me and without thinking twice I pulled her into a hug.

"I promise you that I'd be safe. I'd come back hale and hearty with those creatures in jail for all they've done" I rubbed her back softly while keeping my tears at bay. We stood out there for as long as she needed and once she was done crying. I wiped away her tears, and with a small smile on our faces, we walked into the office.

"Good thing you guys are here" Miss Gloria exclaimed once we walked inside, but our gaze was fixed on the equipment that was sprawled out on her desk. She followed our gaze when she noticed we weren't focused on her, and when she realized where our focus was, she chuckled and gestured for us to come closer.  "After our talk this morning, I went ahead and got these for you. Do you guys want to put them together and check how well they work?" Ruth and I glanced at each other and bobbed our heads excitedly.

And immediately we got to assembling and testing all that we would need for that day.
