"I rushed over here as soon as I read your letter" Franklin panted in between words, referring to the letter I wrote him telling him I finally discovered the truth and how to punish them. I threw my hand against his shoulder with an endearing smile on my face. He immediately shifted uncomfortably in my hold and glanced around the compound suspiciously, while I just stared at him.
I had come home over the weekend. My dad wasn't home just like I expected, and neither was Franklin's so-called mum and that made the house the perfect place for what I wanted to do.
"See anything that tickles your fancy?" He immediately turned to me with the most disgusted face I'd ever seen and slapped my hand off his shoulders
"I've been here before and if anything tickled my fancy, I would have taken it the first time. Your father would have given it to me anyway" he glared at me once again and began marching into the house.
I let out a laugh and quickly fell into step with him, "I thought he was our father" he glared at me once again and I smiled pleasantly at him. "And if you're so sure he'd give you anything you ask for, why not ask for half the share of the properties? Instead of taking it away illegally"
He immediately halted at the door and turned to me with a slight frown on his face, "Is this why you have called me here? To discuss your father's properties?" I breathed out a laugh and opened the door myself.
"Far from it, Frank" I walked into the house and ushered him in. He stared at me for a little while longer before he sucked his teeth and walked into the house or rather mansion. My father, no, Mr Abner had furnished everything with the most expensive materials. Everything was so shiny, so grand, so exquisite, I felt like an outcast. I didn't grow up here, his massive wealth had been acquired after my mother's death and I never spent more than a week in this place and whenever I was around. I spent every single day in my room that I'd designed myself with the average-priced furniture that I was used to.
I sighed and shoved the thoughts to the back of my mind, I need to concentrate on what I came here for. I cleared my throat and looked around the room, specifically at the cameras I had set up a day earlier and once I confirmed they were working, I exhaled deeply.
"I'm going to ask for the last time, Zadkiel" Franklin started and I turned to him with a smile, "why have you called me here?"
"I called you here to talk" his brows immediately shot up and my smile widened, "over lunch that I prepared, myself" I gestured to the dining table that was filled with varieties of dishes that I had spent my time cooking. His eyes followed my hands and once they rested on the dining table, he turned back to me with an amused grin.
"Trying to poison me, now?" I chuckled and walked behind to the dining table. "Are you also going to serve me?" He asked as we both got seated and I smirked in response before I dished out my food and began eating. He got the hint, laughed and dished out his food.
We both ate quietly, savouring the taste of the food. I didn't miss the way his eyebrows raised in delight when he took a bite of the spaghetti. "You're a good cook. I wasn't expecting that" he complimented as we cleared away the plates and I smiled.
"Thank you. I learnt how to cook for my mum" I put the last dish away and walked back to my initial position. "Glad you enjoyed it. I heard jail food doesn't taste good."
He nodded and kept drumming his fingers on the table, but halted all of a sudden. "what did you just say?" I smiled and brought out the files I kept hidden under the table and placed them before him. He stared at the envelope suspiciously before he looked up at me, "What are these?" He asked without even touching the envelope and I took it from him.I opened it and placed the contents before him. "DNA results that prove you're Franklin and the case file from 3 years ago" his eyes dilated and he hurriedly picked up the files and skimmed through them, "you can reopen the case and get the justice you deserve instead of doing all this"
He looked away from the paper and glanced up at me. "Are you being serious right now?" I stared at him without saying a word. He scoffed and slammed the files on the desk, "do you think I haven't tried? Do you think so? Those bastards hit me on purpose and sent me away just because I know the truth about their fag of a son! Do you honestly think I haven't tried to get justice the proper way?" He slammed his hands on the table and stood from his chair but I remained glued to mine, "that bastard of a king already bought the cops, they wouldn't reopen the case!"He paused and took a shaky breath."I tried, Zadkiel," he said, softly this time, "that is why I made a plan of my own. Get a woman, marry the rich idiot, get into Basiliela Bible college, exact my revenge on the royalties, do away with half of the Abner's properties and live a good life. It's the perfect plan"
"God wouldn't want you to do...
"Spare me your God talks! I never believed in that" he sat on the table and stared at me with what I assumed was sympathy. "Stop being delusional Zadkiel, there's no big Almighty up there rooting for you and making plans for you. The voice you claim you hear is you losing your mind or probably your conscience. But there's definitely no big man up there rooting for you!"
I lowered my head and mumbled a prayer for him. That was all I could do for him now. "Believe whatever you want to, Franklin, but you have to do the right thing. You have to reopen the case, believe me, it won't be like before. Gabriel and Josephine are willing to help, they..." I didn't get to finish my sentence before I was knocked off the chair by a punch, straight to my jaw.
"You son of a bi***! You f***ing told them!" He cursed and kicked me straight in the ribs. And I yelped in pain. "I knew I shouldn't have trusted you!" He delivered another kick to my ribs and grabbed a fistful of his hair. "What the f**k made you tell them you freaking bastard!" He yelled and kicked me repeatedly.
"You know, I should have shut you up a long time ago but it's not too late for me to. When I shut you up forever you wouldn't make the mistake of snitching on someone that gave you the benefit of the doubt, you f**king wench!" I didn't get the time to comprehend what he meant before he was dangling a knife before me and just on cue, the door was immediately pushed open and the detective I invited rushed in.
"Hands above your head, Mr Franklin. Any funny movement and O'd shoot" Franklin's eyes widened and he scoffed in disbelief.
"You called the police on me?" I felt a pang in my chest at the pain in his voice, but before I could tell him that I called him to help he immediately cut me off "Good for you then, you f***ing son of a b****" he cursed and I watched helplessly as he plunged the knife into my stomach, and on cue, a gunshot went off.
His bloodied scream and a stampede of feet running towards me were the last things I heard as I kept slipping in and out of consciousness.
