I tucked my hands into my pocket and with a heavy sigh, began walking back to my hostel. In an hour and a half, it'd be lights out, and I was meant to be on hostel parole this night but I didn't have it in me to rush to the dormitory, or to do any work. So I took my time walking over there.
The silence that surrounded the school calmed my nerves and propelled me, even more, to take my time in walking back so I could enjoy it all and calm my mind from what had happened earlier. Jophiel and I were already low-key over even before we began.
I let out a deep breath and shook my head, I had put a hold on us so that I wouldn't have to think about her this period and focus on what I had to do, but it was already proving abortive. I palmed my face and decided to let the thoughts flow and disappear as I enjoyed my walk.
But that was short-lived. Someone grabbed my arms from behind and dragged me off to a more secluded place. I didn't have to see the person's face to tell that it was Franklin, I guessed as much when I felt his grip on my arms. "Where have you been?!" He whisper-yelled and I crossed my arms over my chest, "You were gone all day!"
"Is there any specific reason you were looking for me?" He scoffed and stood up straighter.
"Seems you don't want to get the answers to your questions? Have you ever done anything to get answers or have you been wallowing in self-pity?" I arched a brow at his accusations before I slowly breathed out a laugh.
"First of all, Fredrick, Franklin, whichever you've decided to name yourself. Those questions are your questions, not mine. And two, no, I haven't done anything yet because any normal human being would need time to process all that you've done these past days"
Silence lingered in the air for a while before he let out a breath."Do you think you have enough time to process things before you start getting answers?" He paused and inched closer to me, "News flash, you don't! The twins are getting more suspicious than ever, thanks to your inability to keep your emotions in check and do what you are meant to do! You're grown, Zadkiel. You ought to think and act based on logic not on your emotions"
"Are you trying to call me..."
"I'm not trying to call you anything" he immediately cut me off. "All I'm saying is, you only have so long to find out the answers to your question yourself before I do what I want to do. In case you've forgotten, I came here for a reason and one week is all I have to offer you to get the answers" he paused and stared at me, while I clenched my fists tightly, "Is that clear?"
"And once the one week is up?"
"You can say goodbye to your friends and half of your father's wealth" My eyes widened at his statement, and for a while, all I did was stare at him before a low chuckle escaped my throat and soon enough I found myself laughing.
I let myself laugh for a good solid minute before I took a deep breath and paused, "You've got it all mapped out, don't you?" I asked and his face scrunched up into a deeper frown. "That's nice to know but I have one question for you, how did you manage to get a mother who married my dad? Aren't you or weren't you an orphan?"
"That's for me to know and for you to never find out" he retorted almost instantly and I smiled.
"I'll get going now. And just so you know, one week is more than enough for someone that has the Holy Spirit" I turned on my heels and began walking away
"Oh you still believe in him, thought you gave up on him"
I halted instantly and looked at him from over my shoulder, "A father and a son never truly separate you know? And oh! Before I forget, you shouldn't be so sure you can take half of my father's wealth when you haven't even tied the loose strings of your plan, Franklin." I said and both of his brows shot up. I smiled and walked away.
"You did well, Zadkiel" the warm and familiar voice of the father popped into my head and I smiled. He had prepared me for all these in such a short while, I had let him in again and he had altered my perspective a lot and he has let me see the things that I'd never noticed in this game I was caught up in.
"Thank you Abba" I whispered with the corner of my lips tugged up in a smile as I walked back to my Dormitory.
The Dormitory caretaker had given me a good scolding the moment I got back. He kept me out for over 30 minutes, just scolding me before he let me go. "Tell Gabriel that he would get a scolding too for leaving so late at night and coming back so late too"
I immediately halted on the stairs and turned to him, "Gabriel left?" He furrowed his brow and bobbed his head, sceptically.
"Yes, he got back a few minutes before you did" My eyes widened slightly and several possibilities ran through my mind. I immediately turned on my heels and dashed up to our room. There's a 50% chance that he might have walked in on Franklin and me if he heard our conversation then...
"Glad to see you are back" he mumbled the moment I walked in and I clasped my lips shut for a few seconds before I nodded. "Thought you would be back earlier than this"
I glanced at him seated on his bed and I shrugged, "I thought so too, but something kept me out" I walked over to my side of the room and began unbuttoning my shirt.
"Does the something have to do with a particular human that looks like the one we lost years ago?" I stared at him for a while then went back to silently unbuttoning my shirt. "I saw the two of you and I heard parts of your conversation, Zadkiel. What is going on?" He stood up from the bed and walked over to me, "What are you hiding? Why are you meeting him in secret?"
I shrugged and pulled off the shirt. "I didn't know we were interfering in each other's personal business now"
His mouth slightly dropped open and he shook his head, "per...personal?" I glanced at him, shrugged my lips and looked away. "I didn't know we had personal business now, Zadkiel. We did everything together, we know everything about each other so what is this talk of personal business?"
I stared at him for a while then took out my towel. "Guess time changes or rather unravels people" I put the towel around my neck as I walked to the bathroom, but right as I was about to open the door, I turned to Gabriel, who stood there with a look of disbelief on his face. "And did you say we know everything about each other?" He nodded and I breathed out a laugh.
"I know nothing about 3 years ago" I felt a pang in my chest when he suddenly turned pale. "Just as I expected" I mumbled and walked into the bathroom.
I Guess Franklin was right after all. I need to find out what happened 3 years ago for myself and my sanity.
