Chocolate Cake

I ate too much chocolate cake
it was one my father baked

it wasn't my birthday
and it wasn't his
just a good day for cake
is what it is

he said let's get to work
and so I helped him take
out all the things to make
our yummy, gooey chocolate cake

you need flour
not the florist kind
it's made from wheat
that they will grind

and sugar
that's what makes it sweet
and that's what makes cake
good to eat

and cocoa powder,

then powder and soda -
the baking type,

a little salt,

and eggs,

and milk,

and water,

butter or oil
vanilla in my chocolate cake?
are you sure it's no mistake?
well if it doesn't spoil

oh, and an oven
that's all it takes
and that is
how you bake
your yummy, gooey chocolate cake

but be careful not to eat too much
and get a tummy ache.
