Every day that goes by
it gets harder to think
of a thought no one has thought before
or say a sentence that no one has ever heard
or jump so high that no one has ever jumped quite so high until you came along
and jumped.
Your parents had it easier this way
and their parents
and back and on when
your great great great great great great-grandparents noticed something for the first time,
like finding out that most wood floats and that all stones but one sink
in water
or whoever discovered fire
or language
or music
or pizza.
Maybe no one has said this before, or maybe they have,
but there are probably some thoughts
that are worth thinking twice.
