No one truly remembers
their first kiss.
The one their mother placed
on their soft forehead
when the doctor
gently set them in her arms
and she bent her head down
to kiss them on the brow.
Many forgotten kisses
slip through the years.
Those good morning kisses
that woke you up from dreams,
kisses that healed scraped knees,
encouragement spread through a kiss,
strength shared by one,
the kiss to mend a broken heart,
or that kiss which says
you make me proud,
then good night kisses that
send you off to sleep,
and every kiss goodbye.
Life begins with a kiss
and they carry you through
until the last.
