Brielle's POV

I am currently downstairs eating breakfast alone, well I still have guards surrounding me but Niko and Nikolai aren't here so that's a plus. I usually would have just stayed in the room and ate but I have a reason for being down here right now.

One of the guards that are always surrounding me seems to be a potential ticket out for me. He seems to be around the age of 17 or 18 and he seems to be a little uncomfortable with working here. Yesterday I saw him while Nikolai was yelling at his guards about shipments. Anyways when that was happening he looked scared of Nikolai and he also looked guilty like he didn't want to do whatever it was that Nikolai wanted him to do.

He had this certain aura that said innocent and safe, no matter how many times I had tried to convince myself that he was just another mafia member I just couldn't. He is completely different from the other guys.

So my plan was to get to know him and try to talk him into helping me out. I know it is a long shot considering he is scared of his boss but I also don't think it is completely hopeless.

"You look tired." I say to try and start a conversation with him at least but all he does is look at me and then turn away.

"You could at least act as if i'm here."

"I'm sorry ma'am, but I have orders to not talk to you." He says with a strong spanish accent rolling off his tongue.

"That's fine, but you can at least tell me your name, right?" He looks at me for a bit with some hesitation before he lets out a struggling sigh.

"Martin." He still wasn't looking at me but at least I have gotten his name so that is getting somewhere, I think. I took another bite of my food while I examined his body language. From the looks of it he was worried or nervous about something but I just can't put my finger on it. I could see him taking glances at me with his side eye but he doesn't try to make a move to talk to me.

Well this is a little frustrating.

"You know, you're really quiet compared to your friends." It's true every other guard I had past wither they were Mexican, German or Russian they always feel like they have to make some disgusting comment to me, but not Martin every time I pass him he would always send a nod of greeting my way. It was always so subtle that I almost didn't catch it half the time.

"I'm not supposed to talk to the guest." He says in a low voice still facing forward.

"But yet here you are talking to me." He looks at me for a quick minute before he looked away.

"It's ok I won't tell your boss." He is the only guard inside of the dining room with me the others are surrounded around but not close enough where they can hear us so I'm not worried.

"How did you end up here?" I asked when I realized he wasn't going to answer my previous remark.

"Family." Was all he said which caused me to furrow my eyes at him and for him to roll his eyes at me but I could see a faint smile on his face.

We are definitely getting somewhere.

"My parents worked in the Cartel so it was clear that once I was old enough that I would be following their footsteps."

Is that how it always is? Do the children of the previous generation have to take over whatever part of the mafia their parents were in? I surely hope they have a choice because I want Leon to have options for his future and not have it made out for him already.

Leon.

Just the thought of how he is doing right now caused my eyes to tear up. It had been 5 days and I know for a fact that he must be worried sick. I have never gone over a few hours of not seeing him before and it hurts not being able to hear his little laughs and stories he liked to tell.

"What about you?" Martin asked pulling me out of my thoughts.

"What?" I asked forgetting what conversation we left off on.

"How did you end up here?"

What a good question.

"Wrong people, wrong choices, and wrong place at the wrong time." I say which causes him to look at me with his eyebrows furrowed.

"It's a pretty long story."

"I see." He looks at me and I send a smile his way which he surprisely returns.

He is a nice kid and I know for a fact he doesn't want to be involved with whatever is going on here. So I wonder if I talk him into helping would he help me escape this hell.

Can't hurt to try.

"I need your help Martin." I say in a low whisper just in case anyone decides to walk in or listen to our conversation. He then looks at me with a questioning look on his face.

"With?" He asked cleary intrigued by what I could be asking him.

"Help me get out of here, please." He looks at me for a few seconds before he looks  away with a look of guilt and pity.

"I can't." Was all he said before he walked out. That didn't go as plan and now I am back to square one, I really thought Martin would have been my ticket out for sure considering how he was the only one that ever showed at least a little bit of emotions towards me.

As I got up from my chair getting ready to exit the dining room I was then joined by Elena who was wearing a dark red dress that hugged her body tight. Looking at her I begin to feel a little uncomfortable not just because she was dress to impress and I was just standing here in sweats and a hoodie but also because the look she gave me was clearly full of hatred.

"Oh, I almost forgot that you were still here." Elena rolls her eyes at me before she turns to one of the guards that were near us.

"Instead of standing there can you go get one of the cars ready." She demanded the guard in which he agreed to do but while he left I could hear him mumble something under his breath.

I guess she isn't very popular here.

"Oh Brielle honey you look like you gained some weight you should really look into some sort of work out." She says to me in which I just rolled my eyes in return. If anything I have gotten skinnier because I rarely eat anything anymore. Simply because I either don't trust the food or Nikolai "forgets" to have one of the maids bring me food.

"Don't be a Hündin, I was only suggesting you take up some form of physical health." She pulls out a little mirror from her purse and begins to reapply her dark red lipstick.

(Bitch)

"I will make sure to look into it." I say in a low voice showing my unamusement which only caused her to roll her eyes at me.

"Mrs. Volkov your car is ready for you." The guard from earlier said as he made his way back in.

"Über Zeit, bye bye." As she walks past me she makes sure that she bumps her shoulder against mine causing me to stumble a bit with the force of it.

(About time)

Does she think this is some kind of high school mean girl movie cliche, because she is totally working the role to its full potential. I looked at the door that led to the living room to see that Martin was watching the whole interaction between me and Elena. As we locked eye contact he examines my face which is currently showing desperation for my escape. He looks at me for a few more seconds before slowly nodded his head.

That's all I needed to know that I have a shot of getting my freedom.

I will be back with my son and the love of my life, and this time I am going to fight for Lorenzo. I am done letting him push me away for whatever reason he has, he makes me feel things I have never felt before and I am not willing to let that go.

Ever.
