I ditched class and just went to the library to read a book. I need to divert my attention. I need to do anything just to forget that scene I have watched few minutes ago.
"Miss, are you really reading that?" a guy-in-sunglasses suddenly asked me. Wait, he has a different uniform. He's not from here.
"Who are you? Why do you have a different uniform?" I questioned back.
He offered his hand for a handshake, but I ignored it. "I'm Kim Namjoon."
"Why are you here?"
"To read books. Our school's library is still under construction so... I'm here. It's my second time to go here," he replied.
I just nodded. That's why he's familiar.
He tried to pull himself a chair in front of me but the chair fell down which caused a loud thump. Now, the students were all looking at him.
"Mianheyo," he whispered bowing to all of them. I couldn't help myself but to cackle.
"Why are you sitting in front of me?" I asked.
"By any chance, do you love that book as well?" he queried back.
"The Little Prince? Yes, I love it. Why do you ask?"
"I would like to read that. I was trying to find it in its place awhile ago and then I saw you holding it."
Okay. So he loves reading as well. I think this guy-in-sunglasses has a sense to talk to.
"Ya, why are you wearing sunglasses even in the library? You look weird."
"It's because I'm ugly," he whispered. That's not the answer I was expecting tho. I thought he just suffers from sore eyes.
"I don't think you're ugly. I think you will look more handsome if you remove your sunglasses."
"Really?"
"Really."
He removed his sunglasses, but still, he couldn't look at me directly. This guy, this guy doesn't have a confidence to himself, isn't he? I can see it.
"Ya, you want to read this book, right? Ask me to give it to you by looking at me," I dared.
He looked at me directly and smiled. Omg, the dimples and perfect teeth! How dare he to call himself 'ugly' when he's not?
"That's enough. Here, I'm giving you this," I said and gave him the book.
"Thank you," he replied.
I stood up and got my bag, but he refrained me and asked me to sit again.
"What?" I asked him.
"I want to read you something. Could you give me your interpretation?"
I looked at my wristwatch. I still have 20 minutes to catch up with our first subject in the afternoon so I just agreed. He scanned the book and recited his favorite lines on me.
"'It would have been better to come back at the same hour,' said the fox. 'If, for example, you come at four o'clock in the afternoon, then at three o'clock I shall begin to be happy. I shall feel happier and happier as the hour advances. At four o'clock, I shall already be worrying and jumping about. I shall show you how happy I am! But if you come at just any time, I shall never know at what hour my heart is to be ready to greet you... One must observe the proper rites...'"
"For me, it talks about on how the little prince will tame the fox. That proper rites the fox was talking were, for example, the steps on how he will befriend the fox. The fox was asking the little prince to visit him at 4 o'clock to play and that would be the time that he should be happy because it is a part of the training on how to tame him."
Namjoon looked at me like I had just hit something.
"Ah jinjja. So it's like saying, when a person loves or likes someone, every hour, he or she has to wait and make him or her happy?" he asked and I nodded.
"You're brilliant for explaining it to me."
"You're genius for applying it in real life."
"I think we should talk always like this. What's your name by the way?"
"Shin Cardinal."
"Cardinal?"
"I'm not a pure Korean. I am a pure Filipino."
"Oh, Filipinos are very good."
I just smiled at him.
"I still have a class this afternoon. Have a good day, then," I said and thanked him for his time having a small talk with me. He showed his dimples again and bade me goodbye.
I left the library and ordered my lunch. I saw Min Yoongi with that girl again in the corner eating their lunch as well.
"Hi," someone said and there, Luhan standing before me.
I greeted back and continued eating my lunch when he sat beside me.
"I saw your face awhile ago. You were sad, angry, mad, frustrated and broken," he slowly said as he opened his soda.
"So you're still stalking me?"
"I'm sorry it became a habit. I have no ways to refrain myself."
"Luhan..."
"Don't speak and just let me sit beside you while eating lunch."
I shut up and just let him be. I looked at him and studied his face. Maybe, he was sorry for doing those things to me. Maybe, he just wants to comfort me.
"I heard you cancelled your performance last night," I opened up.
"Oh, so you heard that?" he replied. "It's because the pianist didn't arrive and it's too late when we heard he already left us."
"Don't worry. You'll never see me again."
"Chanyeol, right? What... do you mean he left?"
"He left few days ago to go in America. He didn't even say goodbye."
Oh. I don't know what would I feel. I understand you, Luhan. He didn't even say a proper goodbye to me. So this is how it feels when someone left everyone without saying something.
"Because he's a good guy and you are the bad guys," I told him which made him stop from munching.
"And we were sorry about that. We miss him already. We were trying to reach him via online call but he doesn't pick it."
"Maybe he still needs time to think about you guys. You know, for doing jerky things."
"Why do you sound like, you are scolding me?"
"'Cause I am," I replied. "Oh, okay. Let's just be silent and eat well."
We ate in silence and three meters away from us, I could see Yoongi looking at me.
