SEVEN - Fears and Dreams

Jin-hyung sent us home one by one.

He is the oldest member in the group. He is the one who always cooks for us, takes care of us, and steals food and utensils from home whenever we are broke. The Silver Hyung, I should say.

"Bye," I told them and waved my hand. How they were so loud just saying 'Bye' back?

As I open the door with my key, I looked at Shin's window.

It's already 11pm but her light in her room is still on. I bet she's still listening again to the radio.

When I turned my back, I know, she already turned her light off.

Because it always goes like this. She will not sleep until she sees me enter our house.

I turned my light on inside my room and started to write lyrics.

Do not love me.

You'll become unhappy.

When I'm done, I put it inside my big box. All of my classical compositions are here. This is the same box I was carrying when Shin tried to help me but I disagreed.

Because I am afraid. I am afraid she will see these compositions. I am afraid that someday, I will really be a singer.

She will surely be happy, I know. But that happiness will only be temporary as we become closer to each other, and I will always leave her behind as I run further to my dream. She will witness every positive news about me, but she will hear every negative issue as well. She will see how I reach so far, but she will realize how she stays away from me. She will know every disrespecting comment and criticisms towards me that will only make her upset and sad. And I won't let that happen because...

Because she's so precious and she doesn't deserve to feel that way.

"What's your dream?" she asked.

"This time, I want to be a musician. You?"

"I will be a writer."

I smiled widely as I watch her eat the mango cupcake she always buy.

"You never change," I told her. "Yearly, you always ask me the same question but you never change."

"It's because writing is my first love. I want to publish poems and short stories."

"Music is my first love. I want to produce songs."

"Firefighter? Basketball player? How about those?" she asked innocently.

"I have my reasons why I have loved those, but music is really what I love," I explained. When she's done eating her mango cupcake, I handed her one again.

"Ya, if I ever become an idol soon, what would you do?"

"I will write literary pieces about you."

"If that so, you should only see the beautiful things about me."

"You should always do your best then. Firefighting!"

"Firefighting!"

We were so young back then we didn't have any idea what would be the consequences of our dreams. We were so innocent back then but we managed to build big dreams in that small nipa hut her Father built for us. We were so young back then, but now, here we are... slowly falling apart.
