You wanted a story like them
You wanted to be lovers and not friends
We talked about it that one time
We both blushed from the idea that I could be yours and you could be mine
You would be him and I would be her
And we would make the story our own
We would be the two small town kids who fell in love and made each other their home
You and I, in our own way had that story, we managed to capture the start
You the jock who fell for the girl who was all too smart
Papers and texts, never knowing what comes next
You fell first but I came around
I lived to hear your voice, fully addicted to the sound
My eyes loved to see your golden ones, noting the golden flecks that shined so bright
I never thought, those would be the eyes that haunt me at night
We were so close to being them
I finally came close to that happy end
But then reality set in and crushed the fantasy
You left and I stayed
Now we're the small town kids chasing those big dreams
You want a career on the big screen while I chase the dream where I write and read
I'll always think about you in the back of my mind
Because my heart won't let the memory of you go, not even with time
And I think even you, still get curious as to what could have been
But your dedication to chasing that dream is what killed us in the end
