Night

Jeremy sat at the kitchen table trying to do his homework and threw up his hands.

"This is bullshit. I have no idea what I am doing," Jeremy announced, pushing aside the hand written report. "I hate bio. Can you help me?"

Elena put down the tea she was making, willing herself not to groan. Jeremy knew science and writing came easily to Elena, but she always paid attention in class. She was also interested in the subjects, Jeremy was not.

"Jer, just rewrite the last part. Here, let me help you," Elena offered, taking the empty seat beside him. "There, add that."

Elena made some changes, referring to the biology text book in front of her.

Jeremy smirked, "Oh, I could give you ten bucks and you could finish it for me?"
"Jer!" Elena scoffed. "Ten bucks? Screw you. Do it yourself!"

"Okay, twenty, but that's all I have," Jeremy whined.

Ric came in to get a drink.

"Hey guys, it's getting late. April and Jenna are already in bed. Why don't you head up?" Ric said.

"I have to finish this paper! It's due tomorrow," Jeremy complained.

Ric peered over and looked at the notebook.

"It looks like you are almost done. Just revise it as you are typing," Ric suggested, getting a water out of the fridge.

The house land line rang. Ric reached over and answered it.

"Oh, hey Klaus. What's up?" Ric said. "....Tonight? It's kinda late...Oh, okay, then. Let me call Dorian. He said the Armory has tightened things up but he may be able to send us some digital files. I'll call you back."

Ric hung up and cursed, "Shit. I guess I'm on the Mikaelsons' pay roll now!"

"Ric," Elena chuckled. "What language?"

"Sorry," Ric replied, pulling out his cell phone. "Jeremy, go on up. I'll check on you in a little while. You could always get up early and finish it..."
Elena laughed, "No, he won't. Did something happen with Stefan and Damon? Should I be worried?"
Ric paused, "Um, no, well..."

"Tell me, Ric!" Elena pleaded.

"Jeremy, head upstairs," Ric said again. "And that paper should have been done over the weekend!"

"Yeah, yeah," Jeremy mumbled. "I forgot about it."

"I'm getting you a homework planner," Ric hollered after him. He turned to Elena, who was waiting expectantly.

"Ah, I guess you should know. Katherine Pierce showed up. She's involved in trying to open that tomb. They are going to call Bonnie, I guess. Um, I hate to tell you this, but there is a chance Damon could be possessed still," Ric said with a furrow in his brow. He worried about Jeremy and Elena getting involved again. He just wanted the kids to focus on high school, not all this old vampire drama.

"Oh no," Elena said. "Stefan mentioned that Damon has been weird, but he's Damon. I don't know if Bonnie's cousin is gonna go for this. You know how witches try to stay out of it!"

"Yeah, well, the Mikaelsons are pretty good at pooling their resources," Ric mentioned. "I have to contact my old buddy and try to get them some information about the Travelers. Promise me that you'll try to stay out of this one. And if Katherine bothers you-."
