Louisiana Bayou

Afternoon

"What's wrong with my brother?" Klaus challenged, a hint of anger in his voice. He tossed the unconscious body of Lucien to one of the men to tie up and throw in the backseat. But he had to see to Elijah now.

Elijah was arranged in the back of the SUV, with Hayley mopping his brow with a paper towel. Vampires rarely, if ever, perspired. Klaus also didn't like his pallor, it looked off somehow.

Marcel threw up his hands, saying, "Don't know! A bunch of my guys are in the same boat and they are dying like flies. Diego, man, what the hell is that?"

Diego had scooped up Katherine's ashes in his jacket.

"Ask him," Diego monotoned, nodding toward Klaus.

"Katherine Pierce's ashes. She stepped in front of me," Klaus shivered. "Do you have something we can put them in? I need get them back to Mystic Falls."

Klaus got into the car and propped Elijah's head on his lap, speaking to him softly.

"Ah, yeah, I think I have a garbage bag. Thierry, see to it that all the Kingsmaker dudes are gathered up. Leave no evidence," Marcel said, his confident brown eyes looking over the swamp. "This is back country but there could be hunters or something rolling over these parts. Nothing, you heard me, man?"

Hayley frowned and got a bag. "I'll do the ashes but I don't want to ride in the back with Lucien."

"His neck is broken and I'll snap it again if he wakes up. Are any of Lucien's soldiers able to speak?" Klaus asked.

Marcel shook his head, "You'll ain't gonna believe this, but they, ah, all killed themselves. Took off their rings and burned. What should we do with the wolves?"
Hayley's head snapped back, "Let them go, Marcel. All of them. Please, you can't take them back to town like this."

"But maybe we can question them?" Marcel added.

"No, you can't. Do it," Hayley seethed.

Marcel wasn't convinced, but Hayley had steel in her gaze.

"Yeah, alright. Do it guys and then get every shred we left behind. Every bolt, every weapon and bring it to the warehouse. There has got to be some clues in there," Marcel said, going to get in the SUV. "I'll drive. Hayley get in the passenger seat. I don't want you back there with that guy. Diego, stay here and supervise."
"You got it," Diego said, not happy about it, but not able to argue. "T., get the guys on it. I'll free the wolves."

Thierry tipped his hat and then said, "But Marcel, clean up here is gonna take a while. Ah, there's not going to be a party tonight, right?"

Marcel looked in the SUV and said Klaus cradling Elijah.

"No, man, no party tonight. Your fancy trumpet playing will have to wait," Marcel said as he got that feeling again. Marcel remembered the phrase "Little Warrior" and more...toy soldiers, a pony, and that damn piano. Wasn't there an old one in the attic? He hadn't been up there in decades. He did know these guys, but their story was bullshit.

"Hey, we found the witch," a female daywalker cried out.

"Bring her," Marcel said. "She might know something. Put the cuffs on her and shoot her up with lobelia."
