Lockwood Mansion

Morning

Mason dragged himself out of bed before the boys went off to school. He felt weird staying in his brother's and sister-in-law's massive bedroom so was crashing in one of the guest rooms. Mason wasn't surprised that Carol had equipped it with extra toiletries, there was even a t.v. and an alarm clock. He had set it, but hit the snooze button several times before finally getting up.

"Guys, are you up?" Mason hollered, after using the bathroom and splashing cold water on his face.

Tyler yelled back, "Yeah, man. We're up."

Mason went into Matt's room.

"How you doing today, buddy? Feeling better?" Mason asked, as Matt was putting on his socks.

Caroline had stayed the night before and comforted Matt about his sister's turning.

"Yeah, I'm better. Thanks," Matt said, trying to smile.

"He better be. We have baseball practice today. Coach is gonna be pissed we skipped yesterday," Tyler said, coming into Matt's room.

"Well, I ain't too happy about it either," Mason said, glancing at Matt. "You two do it again and I'm going to lit up your asses. Got it?"

Tyler grimaced and nodded, but Matt just laughs, thinking Mason was ribbing them.

"We won't," Matt said. "Vic is in pretty good hands at the boarding house, I think. Miss Pearl's daughter is starting school today. She asked me to check in with her."
Tyler was fixing his hair in Matt's dresser mirror and leaned over to use his deodorant.

"Really, man? That's gross," Matt grumbled, yanking it out of Tyler's hands roughly.

"I'm out," Tyler said glibly. "Hey, Uncle Mason, any word from my parents?"

Mason shook his head. "I tried to call your mom, but the voicemail box was full."

"I kinda thought they would be back by now. Or at least called," Tyler said.

Mason dodged the question. "I'll head to the store today. Let me know what you guys want. But there's a bunch of deodorant and tooth paste in my closet. Help yourself, Ty."

Tyler jogged off to go check out the supplies, leaving Matt and Mason alone.

Matt leaned in to Mason.

"Are you sure the Mayor and Mrs. L. are okay? She might not be around a lot, but she is usually up Ty's ass about his school crap and stuff," Matt whispered.

Mason looked behind him and shut the door partly.

"Honestly, I'm getting worried, too," Mason admitted. "Someone from my brother's staff called to get a signature. They seem to think he was sick with a virus. I'm going to check in with the Sheriff and see what the hell is going on. Don't mention this to Ty, though, not yet."

"Yeah, no worries there," Matt grinned. "I can keep my mouth shut."

"Want me to make you some breakfast? I can't really cook, but I can make eggs or something," Mason offered.

"Nah, we'll grab something on the way to school," Matt said, picking up his MFHS jacket.

Tyler came back and told Matt to hurry up from the hallway.
