Broken - Part 2

In the Enchanted Forest, while Philip and Aurora were talking, the second rider was surveying the area when a soft tremor caught their attention. The rider kneeled down to feel the ground and drew their sword as the ground broke apart, the same black and faceless monster coming through.

Philip drew his sword too and went to help the rider swinging his sword to the monster

"Philip!" Aurora called out frightened

Philip's sword hit the medallion, causing it to fall to the ground, before the monster flew away. Philip grabbed the medallion as Aurora came over "What was that thing?" she asked

"Something bad" Philip answered, looking at the medallion

"Cretin" the rider said, speaking for the first time "In your land you would call it a wraith"

"I'm sorry, who is his?" Aurora asked Philip

"A friend" the rider replied, taking off their helmet

"You're... a girl" Aurora said, shocked to see a young woman, about her and Philip's age, with beautiful brown eyes, tanned skin and long dark hair

"Woman" the rider remarked "My name is Mulan" she introduced herself

"In your absence, she's helped me like no other" Philip explained to Aurora "We fought many battles together"

"With a woman" Aurora repeated, still shocked

"And now we have another to wage" Mulan informed them "The Cretin, the wraith, is one of the most dangerous creatures in all the known lands. A soul sucker" she explained "According to legend, it marks its victims and removes their souls, damning them for all eternity. But fortune favoured us, as we all avoided the mark. We need to begin our journey" she said, walking away

"It's okay" Philip told Aurora "We'll be safe with our people"

Aurora hugged him and Philip saw that his hand had the medallion's mark on it

"Philip, what is it?" Aurora asked, when she saw him looking at his hand

"Nothing" he replied, quickly hiding his hand "Everything is fine" he lied

The trio started riding back towards the safe haven. They hadn't been on the road long when Mulan spoke "We should camp her tonight. The wraith only appears when light is absent, that's why it ran when it first appeared" she explained "Light is its adversary"

"And you want to stop now?" Aurora asked

"It's looking for a mark, something alive" Mulan said "Our best bet is to be still until night passes"

"She's right" Philip told Aurora "We have to rest here"

They started setting up camp, Philip making a tent for Aurora "Here, you should sleep" he told her

"No, I can't" Aurora said

"Just relax. It'll come" he assured her

"No, I mean, I won't sleep" she told him "Not after what I just went through" she said softly, referring to the sleeping curse she had been under "What's wrong?" she asked when she saw Philip's serious face

"I just missed you so much" he replied honestly, making Aurora smile

"And now you don't have to" she said

"I'm going to find wood. To build us a fire" he suddenly changed the subject "I'll be back in five minutes" he said before grabbing Aurora's face and kissing her passionately
