Chapter 24

Reign's POV

"Reign? Is it really you?", she asked in shock. I nodded my head. I didn't know how to react or how she felt towards me after I basically threw her and uncle Henry away due to Blake's manipulating words. They took care of me after my parents died and has been nothing but great to me. She surprised me by engulfing me in a tight hug. "It's been so long sweety, you've grown into a beautiful woman", she said into my ear. I returned her hug. This feeling that I haven't felt in a long time came rushing back to me. The feeling of having a parent.

"Tell me everything", she said as we ate our icecream on a bench. I chuckled. I remember our relationship always being open even though she's a 43 year old woman...well 47 now. It's been 4 years since the last time I saw her. "Well for starters, I broke up with Blake". Her eyes went wide and she jumped off the bench. "Hallelujah!", she shouted which got her a few weird looks in return, but she had no care in the world. "Okay, no need to be that dramatic ", I said. "It definitely is, cause that boy was an asshole". She sat back down. "I couldn't agree with you more, just wish I saw it sooner", I said.

She moved closer to me and placed her hand on mine. "I'm sorry for pushing you away aunt Tilly. I have no one to blame but myself and I hope you can forgive me one day", I said shamefully with my head down. She tilted my head back up. "I forgave you a long time ago and better late then never sweety, and stop calling me aunt. You are making me feel old". I wiped my tears that escaped and we laughed.

"What are you doing in South Africa anyway?", I questioned her. She took a lick of her icecream before responding. "Your Uncle wanted to get away from home a little so we planned a short getaway for a week. His at the hotel getting a basket ready for us to have a picnic at one of the parks". That sounds like him. I've always admired their relationship as a child. They are like soulmates from a fairytale book. "His gonna be so happy when I tell him I found you", she said emotionally. "No more avoiding us okay?". I gave a genuine smile. "I won't". We gave each other another hug. She got up from the bench, ready to head back to uncle Henry. I felt the need to ask her these questions.

"Aunt Tilly wait". She faced me. "Yes? And I said no more calling me aunt". I took a deep breath."What is the secret to keep your relationship so healthy and long? How did you know uncle Henry is the one?" She thought it over for a minute. "Honestly, there is no secret. The only thing we did was choose each other every day no matter what. We never gave up on each other. The occasional petty fights was there, but it never pushed us to give up on each other and that's something a lot of young couples does. One fight then they are done. So my love ,the only thing I can say of this new lover of yours, if you feel in your heart his worth fighting for, then never give up on him no matter how hard it looks or seems".

Her words brought comfort to my heart. The irrational feeling I've been having of not being able to go on dates with Akieno was gone. Now I knew what to do. "Thanks Aun...I mean Tilly". She nodded her head in approval. "And...how'd you know I have a new lover?", I asked shyly. She shook her head with a smile. "I can see it in your eyes". With that said, she gave me her phone number and walked off.

No more complaining. I'm gonna make a way to spend more time with Akieno.
