Chapter 26

Reign's POV

I've been waiting for Akie to pick me up over an hour now. I can't spot his car anywhere. Suddenly my phone rings. The name flashes Miyako. "Hey Mimi, do you maybe know where Akieno-", she interrupts me before I can finish my sentence. "Reign, there's something you have to know but I'm sending Hisoka to pick you up from the airport and drop you by the hospital", she hangs up before I can question her.

Ten minutes later I spot Hisoka's car and get in. We greet each other, but his demeanor has a dark cloud over it. His not the humorous guy I know. I decide to stay silent. We drive in silence till we reach the hospital. We walk in and I'm greeted with a wave of sadness in the hall. Everyone is crying, the twins, Miyako and from the looks of it, family raltives that I haven't met yet.

Miyako signals me and I make my way towards her. "What's going on, what happened?". She wipes her nose with a tissue and takes a deep breath. "You're scaring me. What happened and where's Akieno?". She finally speaks. "Reign, Akieno was in a car accident and...his brain dead". My whole world pauses. "Wait...what?". I can't process what she just said cause, that's impossible. "He got hit by a guy that crossed a red light and slammed right into him. The guy flew through the windshield and instantly died". I grab my hair and slide down to the floor. "No! No, this can't be happening. He was fine two hours ago when we texted. Please tell me this is just a bad dream", tears fall out of the corners of my eyes. My heart beats a thousand times faster then usual and I'm hyperventilating. "Reign, I'm sorry...but his gone". I pull myself up from the ground and start running into every room till I find him. I shout his name as I run.

Till finally, I find him...laying in a hospital bed with a bunch of wires connected to him and surrounded by machines. I walk up to his side and take his hand. "Akieno...it's me. Wake up please?", I whisper while hiccuping. "Please, I just found you and we still have 100 years together. You can't leave me now Akie", I break out into loud sobs as my one hand is in his hair and the other holding his hand. Nurses come rushing in to tell me I can't be in here. "I just want 5 minutes with him please", I beg them. Their sympathized faces confirms that they'll give it to me and they exit the room.

I face him again. I rub his cheek and kiss it. " I'm not ready for you to leave, but I know that this wasn't your fault. I'm glad I got to have you....in my...li-life even though, it was just f-for a little while". I can't talk properly cause every word I say, tears follows. "I love you...so much Akieno Soma, and a-and thank you for showing me what love is". I kiss him on the lips for the last time, knowing I'll never get to feel it again and exit the room.

Everyone made their way back to the Soma's house after saying goodbye to Akieno. Hot beverages is going around and meaningless conversations among people. I sit next to Miyako in silence, recalling how they switched the machines off that kept his heart beating. Then the sound of an endless line took over as we all watched him. " Reign, you have to eat something ", Miyako snaps me back to reality with a tray of small sandwiches in her hand. Her face looks miserable like she hasn't had rest for days. I can only imagine how she must feel after losing a child that she raised. "I'll eat later", I lighty decline. She nods and passes the tray on.

"I know nothing will ever be the same again...but I want you to know you will always have a place here. I know Akieno would love that and so would I", she whispers. Not being able to hold my tears back, I hug her and we cry on each other's shoulders. "Who...who was the other guy that died?", I ask. She thinks for a second. "I think they said his name was Blake Clinton". Again, my world freezes. Could it be my Blake? Did he do it on purpose?...but that would be impossible cause I never told him about Akieno. I decide to put that thought on hold and think of Akieno again...his really gone.
