Tina's POV
I'm cold, but I have grocery shopping to do. I just got paid and already all my money disappeared. Bills, necessities and other stuff are stressful.
Living in Peckham, Clarendon means I'm supposed to be used to the cold but I'm honestly not. It's cold most of the year but the cold hits differently in late December. It's a few weeks before Christmas. It's about two weeks prior and you know as a Jamaican I'm already decorating for the holiday.
I'm shivering, goosebumps are washing over my body but yet still I chose to wear jeans shorts that hug my curves and a white tank top that exposes my cleavage, topped off with an orange puffer jacket that I own and orange Nike sneakers.
I took up my keys and headed out the door being met with my overly excited dog that was on the veranda.
"Hi Beige," I say in a high pitched voice at the small Pomeranian that's now jumping all over my shoes but I don't mind because she's so cute.
"I'll see you when I'm home, Beige," I tell the small dog, rubbing her tummy.
I jump into my beamer that my mother got me when I turned 18. You'd expect it from my dad but he's not exactly present in my life so it's just been me and my mom. I hooked up my phone to my car and decided to call mommy while I drive to Spalding to get my tank refilled and to stock up on groceries because Christmas dinner is at my house this year.
"Hey mommy," I greet my mother as soon as she answers the phone.
"Wah happen mi pickney, know how mi long fi hear your voice because you don't call me often anymore," she responds as soon as the phone picks up.
"Mum, you know how busy I am these days, I just don't have the time," I tell the lady that scoffs at my words.
"Busy? Hard work a lick yuh under yuh skin now, hm?" she scolds and I can just see her eyes roll through the phone and she laughs.
"Mommy stop it nuh," I roll my eyes.
"Stop rolling your eyes, they'll fall out. Plus remember that Christmas dinner is at your house this year," she says and I'm still wondering how she knows I rolled my eyes.
"The same way you know she rolled hers," my subconscious points out.
"Yes mommy I remember, on my way to Spaulding right now," I smile at her ignorance because she feels the need to treat me like a child.
"So when are you going to get a male counterpart?" she asks and I can just feel the look on her face. That Jamaican mother look.
"Mommy, please. Don't bother with that," I plead, my face dropping instantly. I'm not interested in finding a man right now. I'm a 22 year old that just wants to focus on my career and future.
"Hm," she scoffs.
"I'm not interested in finding a mate mother, I just want to focus on me. Men are the least right now," I tell the lady I call my mother, the lady that feels the need to tell me what to do. I know she cares but I don't need her to control me anymore.
"Whatever yuh seh mi child, well a come guh work so lata," she says as she dismisses the call. She didn't even wait for me to say goodbye but it's fine.
I'm now in Spalding town and I decided to go to the gas station first and I did just that. I then went to the gas station where I took out a shopping cart and started doing minor shopping. I'll head to Mandeville tomorrow to get the rest of the things that I don't get here.
"Move out a d way!" I heard somebody yell at me but I was pulled out of the way before I could react.
"How much time must I tell you to stop playing in supermarkets little boy," I hear a man scolding his son who looks no older than three years old, after which I heard a slap across the little boy's back, followed by loud crying.
