Tina's POV
"Christine you're late," I'm met with the annoying voice of my supervisor.
Why she even deh yah?
I don't know? Maybe because it's her job.
"I'm aware," is my simple response to which she sighs and gets back to work.
I'm tired already and the day has just begun. I finish the cup of coffee before sitting at my respective window. The first client came up to my window and she was as pleasant as they came.
"Good morning," she greets and I smile.
"Good morning,"
My interaction with her was quite pleasant. I can tell it's her first time here by herself, she asked a lot of questions and normally that would bore and annoy me but I surprisingly didn't mind.
12:16p.m
It's almost lunch time and I'm already done with today.
*phone rings*
"Hello, good afternoon. How may I assist you?" I answer the phone in the most pleasant way like I'm not annoyed to death right now.
"Good afternoon, I would like to speak with Miss Haye,"
"Oshane yuh fi do betta eno," I laugh and he echoes it.
"What a way you answer well pleasant like yuh nice," he comments and I roll my eyes.
"Please Shaney, do not start with me. I'm hungry and annoyed enough as is," I smile and he chuckles.
"Alright. Weh yuh wah fi eat?" his question surprises me to say the least. He's in Kingston right now. Why would what I want to eat matter to him?
"I'm in the mood for jerk pork, festivals and a cold bottle of watermelon light beer," my mouth waters as the words leave my mouth.
"Is that all?" he asks for confirmation.
"Yes," I smile. My tone is light and cheery.
"Okay, call mi back at lunch time, okay?"
"Okay?" I say but it sounds more like a question than a statement.
"Good, I'm going to go back to work, so later," he says.
"Later,"
A smile is still plastered across my lips. I'm less annoyed than before that's for sure.
Christmas is a few weeks away and I still haven't started stocking up on food nor decorations. My mother will kill me if she calls and asks about it and I tell her that I haven't done anything yet.
12:40p.m
My phone rings and I answer it. The soothing voice of Oshane caresses my ear and I smile.
"Hey sweetheart," I smile brightly. The grin is obvious in my tone but I don't care.
"Hey baby girl," he greets back and my smile widens even more.
"Guh to Patchy him outside," he instructs and I don't make any effort to ask any questions.
I make my way outside to meet him. He's standing beside his Audi with his head buried in his phone like every young adult does.
"Nester," I call out to him and he looks up and responds. He hands me a bag and proceeds to reenter his car. He says his goodbyes and leaves.
"Yuh still here?" I ask
"Yeah, yuh get it?" he asks
"Yeah, whatever "it" is, I got it," I smile.
I put the phone on speaker and rested it on my desk. I proceeded to open the brown paper bag and immediately the strong scent of jerk pork fills my nose and I squeal with excitement.
"There's no way," I giggle and remove the plate from the bag. Opening it to find exactly what I wanted inside.
"Thank you," I said to the man on the other side of the screen. This is a first for me.
"Dat good mn, yuh can done miserable up yuh self now," he comments and I'm too happy to even roll my eyes at him.
"Later zeen cause mi a guh back to business," he says and I can hear the smirk on his face.
"Bye and thank you again," I said before hung up.
I take the biggest bite out of the jerk pork. My mouth waters and my eyes roll to the back of my head. This is amazing.
"Watch yah, tek time good gyal," Anaya laughs as she enters the lounge.
Anaya is my really close friend, she's the closest thing I have to a best friend here.
"Yuh wah some?" I ask as I take a piece of festival and a sip of the beer into my mouth.
"A wah?" she asks.
"Jerk pork and festival," I tell her and she runs over to the table.
"Yuh can ask dat?" she says with excitement and I couldn't help but laugh. What a gyal love har gut.
"But wait, a weh you get dis?" she asks. Her face was laced with curiosity.
"One gyal can nuff suh?" I roll my eyes and she lightly hits my shoulder and laughs.
"Answer nuh," she says. Anticipation evident in her eyes.
"Well...if you must know, Oshane bought it for me," I told her and the smile on my lips could blind you.
"Then watch big smile to nuh. New man?" she says, smiling at me.
"He's just a friend," I blush.
"If you say so hun," she says, still eating my food.
"Yuh nah mek we gah the party weh a keep down a Parisville night club?" she asks and I shrug.
"Girl don't even answer cause yah come, cause me one nah guh, carry yuh new man to," she laughs and leaves the room.
"He's not my man," I smile.
"Whatever, just bring him," she says, closing the door behind her.
After work
"Nester," I say as soon as he picks up the phone.
"Mah fwd," he says before hanging up.
A few minutes later he comes to pick me up. Speakers blazing and windows up with a very dark tint. I wonder who he's hiding from with such a dark tint.
"Yuh nuh fraid police wull yuh?" I ask as soon as he exits the car.
"Fi wah?" he asks with his hands in his pocket. The smirk on his face tells me he knows why I asked.
"The tint is way darker than it should be," I tell him while I walk towards the now opened door. He had opened the door for me. "Thank you."
"You nuh worry bout dat," he says. His signature smirk pasted on his lips.
The drive is mostly loud music and fast driving. Silence is between us.
