Chapter 54 Start There

*Nanami POV*

The following morning, most of 1A had already gathered in the training facility for class. Any students missing, were those who had been called in earlier to their work studies.

"Hey All Might, what are you doing here?" Sero asked, both hands on his hips. "Where is Mr. Aizawa?"

"Good morning Young Sero, I'm afraid Mr. Aizawa won't be teaching todays class, something urgent came up at the night eye agency that required his presence."

"Is it Eri?!?!" I bolted to All Might's side. "Do they know where she is??" I clenched my fist in anticipation.

All Might raised both hands up in front of him "Now now Young Nanami, I don't know any specifics. They have confined the details of the mission to only those heroes who will be directly involved."

The sadness behind All Might's eyes made it clear to see just how much it hurt him to no longer be considered vital in these kinds of cases. "The less people know, the better"

An ache filled my chest at seeing the expression that settled on the face of the worlds greatest and most selfless Hero.

It doesn't matter what he looks like, All Might's heart is still pure gold.

But in an instant, that look of self loathing was gone and was replaced with concern. "Come now, don't look so down!" All Might placed a hand on my shoulder. "Chin up Young Nanami, this is when we should remain most vigilant" The way he said this sent a chill down my spine. As if he knew something was coming.

I search his cobalt eyes before responding. "Right"

All Might grabbed a small note pad from his back pocket "But fear not!" He boomed. "I know exactly what we can work on today!" He added as he flipped through the tagged pages in his book.

Adorable. I smiled.

"We are going to continue working on Ultimate moves, but I want you to focus on combination moves with some of your classmates. It's important for you to know how to work on the field with other quirks and use them to come up with powerful attacks"

"Tsk" Bakugou folded his arms across his chest. "I don't need to work with any other weakling! or use their quirks!" He growled. "My attacks are powerful enough on their own!"

All Might inhaled a calming breath before focusing his attention on the boy standing next to me. "It's a matter of gaining an advantage on the battlefield Young Bakugou, especially faced with multiple opponents"

"Young Nanami" All Might began.

Surprised to have the attention back on me, I straighten and face All Might.

"Your power is incredibly versatile" He lifted his palm towards me "However, I have only ever seen you use 'Manipulation' on electricity"

"Well yeah, because it's the easiest one for me to gather and absorb constantly"

"And you seem to have great control over it, but if you ever find yourself fighting a villain with a powerful fire quirk, like Todoroki, wouldn't the ability to manipulate water be beneficial?"

I nod. "Of course,"

"Which is why I want you to work with Young Todoroki today" All Might added "As for the rest of you, I have a list of the partners I would like you to work with"

As All Might sorts out the rest of the class, Todoroki and Yaoyorozu make their way towards Bakugou and I.

"Looks like you and I will be working together today Bakugou" Yaoyorozu attempted a full smile, but failed.

Bakugou narrowed his eyes at her for few heart beats before responding with "You make things, right?"

I fought the urge to face palm, but gave him a long sideways glance.

Yaoyorozu, polite as ever, simply nodded with a tight smile.

Bakugou tilted his head to the side as if assessing her and her quirk, clearly trying to decide the benefit of training with her today.

Seeming to have realized something, a half-smile curled his lips before he said "Let's go"

"Right!" Yaoyorozu exclaimed with two clench fists pulled close to her chest. "I hope we can learn a lot from each other today!"

As they turn to leave, the silence between Todoroki and I grew taught. "So" I begin to do some light stretching. "How should we start?"

"Well, your quirk requires you to absorb an element before using it right?" He asked, both hands in his pockets.

"Yup" I rock back and forth on my heels.

"So, if you touch ice," his right hand began to fog as it began to radiate icy tendrils. "Will you be able to produce and manipulate ice?"

I felt embarrassed to not know with certainty the extent of my quirk. I just never considered it to be that strong when I was younger.

"I don't think so" I said as I took a step towards him. "I think I would be absorbing water molecules and storing them" I shrugged.  "Then using them to manipulate the water I have stored"

I smile sheepishly "Which with my current water manipulation level, the best I can hope for is some fancy looking water bending, but I doubt I can use any strong attacks with it" I admitted.

Todoroki smiled. "Ok then, I guess we start there"
