Chapter 36 Together

*Nanami POV*

"They wanted to use me to create a new weapon" I began.

I focus my gaze on the center of the table.

"I have a genetic mutation, one in which under the right conditions causes sudden physical changes and...."

I tilt my head slightly to one side and pull my brows together. "Destructive... Behavior?"

After reminding myself to breath, I continue.

"The league believes that as many as 20% of the population expresses the B- gene, but most wouldn't even know they had it because certain conditions must be met for the gene to be activated." I explained.

"B-gene?" All Might asked.

"Short for Beserker Gene" I explained.

All Mights eyes widen slightly and he leans back into his chair.

"When the gene is activated, cells begin to mutate rapidly and the body produces high levels of adrenaline with a sudden decrease in serotonin. These chemicals are the catalyst that trigger the change."

"Once Im in that form, I loose control. I cant recall anything I do while going berserk, but I know my strength and speed are enhanced. Luckily, I cant seem to stay in berserker form for long."

I quickly glance around me and brush a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Nanami" Cementose interrupted. "How did the league find out about this gene and find out that you had the mutation?"

"Apparently, It had already been activated in me at a young age. I was in an accident where I suffered severe trauma, that should have killed me, which seemed to be the trigger back then"

I laughed humorlessly. "Kind of funny that what saved me long ago has become a curse to me now"

"They were made aware I was a potential B-gene carrier when they found my case, but I dont know much more than that I'm afraid"

"How did they plan to use you as a weapon? Just by forcing you to go berserk in a crowded area?" Aizawa guessed.

"Initially.... Thats what I thought too, but as time went on I realized they were using me to learn all they could about the gene itself. They learned what chemicals spike when the transformation starts, they learned that by forcing me to exhaust my quirk also made me transform faster and That the fastest way to induce the mutation is with massive blood loss."

A balled up fist slams onto the table. Startling a few of us around the table for a moment.

It was Bakugou. He was vibrating in his chair. Doing everything he could to sit still and hear my story, which seem to be setting him off.

"Massive blood loss?" All Might echoed, his face giving away his horror.

He looked at me as if my words broke his heart.

With a low gaze and a half smile I reply. "Yes..."

"They got creative with their experiments"

Feeling a train of thought coming together in my head, I bit my lip.

"They were using me to study the mutation, learning how to induce it, but what if they were figuring out how to cause the mutation itself?" I realized.

"If they develop a serum that can create the B-gene mutation, they can turn anyone into a berserker." Cementose realized.

" A gaseous form of the substance in a heavily populated area, like a subway or a mall could mean hundreds of deaths." All Might added.
