Chapter 55 In and Out

*Nanami POV*

For the better part of an hour the only thing I seemed to have done is hold an ice bar that Todoroki made, while trying to absorb electrical energy as well.

I feel like I'm barely making progress.

I can feel the absorption of the water, but the ice is so cold it becomes harder for me to focus.

"Tch" I protest as the bar of ice bites at my right hand. I transfer the bar to my left hand, before releasing a deep sigh.

"I'm sorry Todoroki" I mumble as my frustration rises.

"For what?" he asked surprised.

"You probably want to be working with someone else to improve your skills before you retake the license exam, but instead your stuck baby-sitting me."

"I'm happy to be the one to help you improve your quirk. I can relate to having an affinity for one of your powers more than the other" He explained.

"Really? You seem to have great control over both"

"It wasn't always like that" He continued. "But you shouldn't shy away from your full potential, everyone is giving it their all to improve" He smiled.

"I'm still not too sure how your power works, but maybe this can help." Todoroki made his way towards me and placed both his palms upward. His left palm released a steady stream of heat, and his right Icy fog. "Place your hands over mine, it should be easier for you to absorb the energy this way, versus the fully frozen bar I made earlier."

I close the distance between us and hover my hands over his and try to ignore the closeness between us.

I see what he means though, it's as if in this form I can focus on taking in the heated energy vs the cold energy in lower doses.

I let my body become familiar with the heat and the cold, taking my time with both. I didn't realize I had closed my eyes, but right now it was just me, pushing the limits of my quirk.

I alternate my focus between the cold and the heat until I began to recognize their unique pattern. I trace their signature along my entire body, from my fingertips to my toes, and finally settle the energy in my chest.

I liked the feeling, it was as if my quirk was stretching its limbs for the first time in forever.

It felt good, really good. So, I became greedy.

Instead of simply absorbing the energy, I reached for it and pulled it in. Taking it all for myself.

"Hah" Todoroki chuckled.

I open my eyes to find him way closer than he had been a few minutes ago. His odd eyes holding me still for a few seconds.

All around us fire and Ice roared. The changing air pressure causing my hair to whip wildly around me. "Oh" I gasped. Realizing I had closed the gap between us and moved my hands up Todoroki's forearm.

"I noticed you were being able to absorb my fire and ice easier after a few minutes, so I kept increasing the output"

"Well done" He smiled.

"Wow" I laughed.

Becoming aware of my other senses now. I feel the gazes of everyone on us. I turn to find All Might smiling proudly at us and a giggle escapes my lips.

Todoroki eased off the intensity of his power slowly, then I stepped away from him feeling a zing of power vibrating through me.

"Great job you two" All Might said as he made his way towards us.

"Well, I haven't really done anything" I pointed out.

"Not true, you just added a new skill set to your powers Kira, its progress" he insisted.

"Hey All Might!" Midnight yelled as she peeked her head inside the training facility and motioned for him to join her.

"Excuse me students" All Might gave us an apologetic look before turning away from us.

"People from the Night-eye agency have been in and out of UA all day" Jiro said.

"What do you think it is?" I asked Bakugou as his eyes tracked All Might.

"I don't know but leaving us in the dark is annoying the hell out of me."

"Here" Bakugou came to stand in front of me and secured a small pin onto my jacket. "Yaoyorozu made them"

"All Student" A voice spoke through the public speakers. "Please head back to the dorms for the remainder of day"

"All Might!!!" Bakugou snapped as he stomped his way over to the teachers.

Before I can say anything to him "Common Nanami!" Jiro called. "Let's head back together"

"Yeah, okay" I agreed before I followed suit behind the others.

As we make our exit, we get lost in a sea of all UA students heading towards the dorms at the same time. I get separated from the others, but we all steadily make our way back to the dorms.

My foot snags on something and I almost fall flat on my face, but an arm wraps around my waist and holds me up .

Initially I am grateful for the save, but when I'm pulled out of the crowd and into a hall, I realize thick green vines have wrapped around me. Panic shoots through me with realization and the vines tighten around my arms and legs.

I struggle against him "Let go of m-" a vine slaps around my mouth before I'm hit with a power blow to the back of my skull and then everything goes black.
