[A/N: This is the second part of the imagine, 'Admire from Afar.' Please read this story if you would like more context.]
Finney would never forget the look on your face when you saw Bruce Yamada kiss the girl on his doorstep. It was painful to see you like that, looking like your world was ending. What was worse was to watch the love of your life so heartbroken over someone that didn't like her back.
As much as Finney denied it, he was in love with you. He did surprisingly well hiding his feelings from you since he always kept his thoughts to himself. Spending too much time with you led to these strong feelings. Finney loved you but didn't have the guts to tell you. Just like with you and Bruce.
He knew about Bruce and the girl for months. She was a new student this school year, and Finney observed them gradually get close. Finney considered telling you, but he didn't want you to get heartbroken. Maybe he should have told you, perhaps. Then you wouldn't have reacted this way. He hated seeing you cry. It made him want to cry too.
When he saw the two kiss in front of them, he knew he had messed up once he saw your reaction. I should have told her, Finney thought.
That was when he saw tears well up in your eyes. Finney's chest tightened, panicking. He wasn't good at comforting others when they were upset. He said the first thing he thought of.
"Let's go to my house. It's getting dark. Maybe you can sleep over; my dad's on a work trip," Finney said, wrapping his arm around your shoulder. You didn't notice this time; you only sadly stared at Bruce's home.
The walk to Finney's house was silent. The sun had already set, dark clouds floating over you. At the time, no one was there. Gwen Blake, Finney's sister, was sleeping over at a friend's house, leaving you and Finney alone.
You wiped your tears sullenly as you two went to his room. Finney glanced at you, wishing she knew someone else loved you. More than you loved Bruce.
"I was there for him, Finn. I've loved Bruce longer than whoever that girl was. . ." you sobbed, hanging your head. "I'm so stupid! I should've told him sooner," you cried. Finney sat beside you, gliding his hand over your back comfortingly.
You continued to rant. "She's so prettier than I am, and she's Bruce's type. How could I compete?" You cried, holding your head in your hands.
"Are you kidding me? You're gorgeous! Way more than she is!" Finney exclaimed, holding you.
"You're only saying that because you're my best friend," you said, looking up. Your eyes were embarrassingly puffy, so you hid your face in your hands again.
Finney knitted his eyebrows before glancing at you. Friend. Just best friends, nothing more. Seeing you so upset made him sad too. Your sobs echoed throughout the small room as Finney sat closer beside you.
"Y/n, Bruce is an asshole for not noticing you. There's no need to waste your tears over him. Besides, I bet tons of guys are head over heels for you," He grinned, making you smile slightly before frowning again.
