INT. GREEN HILL ZONE - DAY
We see Knuckles walking down a path, and he stops to wave at the camera.
KNUCKLES: Hi! Just wanted to say hi to everyone out there. How's it going today? The sun is shining and the wind is blowing. It's a great day to be a echidna.
He continues walking and talking.
KNUCKLES: I've been exploring this area, looking for some ancient relics. I heard there's something hidden around here that will help me protect the Master Emerald. I'll do whatever it takes to keep it safe.
Suddenly, Knuckles stops and looks off into the distance. He sees Sonic and Tails approaching.
KNUCKLES: Hey Sonic! Hey Tails! What's up?
SONIC: Not much, Knuckles. What are you up to today?
KNUCKLES: Just saying hi! And looking for ancient relics.
TAILS: Really? That sounds cool. Can I help you look?
KNUCKLES: Sure thing, Tails! The more the merrier.
The three of them continue their search for the relics, walking through the lush forest. As they search, Knuckles continues to wave and say hi to anyone who passes by.
KNUCKLES: Hi there! Hi! How's it going?
But as they search, Sonic suddenly stops and looks down at the ground. He sees something that makes him pause.
SONIC: Wait a minute...
TAILS: What is it, Sonic?
SONIC: I just realized something. Knuckles, do you remember back in Chapter 8 when you fought Kratos the God of War?
KNUCKLES: (pauses) Uh, yeah...
SONIC: And do you remember what happened to you during that battle?
KNUCKLES: (pauses) Uh...
SONIC: (softly) Knuckles, you died.
KNUCKLES: (surprised) What? No, that can't be true. I'm right here, aren't I?
SONIC: I'm sorry, Knuckles. You passed away during that battle.
KNUCKLES: (stunned) No...
The realization of what has happened hits Knuckles hard. He slowly falls to the ground, unable to move.
SONIC: (sadly) I'm sorry, Knuckles.
TAILS: (saddened) Me too.
The two of them stand over Knuckles, paying their respects to their fallen friend. The camera zooms out to show the beautiful forest, and the sun sets in the background.
