Chapter 49 : The Sound of Farewell

Myungsoo's House. Early Evening. Eun Hee's POV.

It has been more than three hours since Baekhyun was declared a missing criminal, around those hours, it was the former Platinum members who sought to look for him and place him behind bars again. Having want to join the search, I was reprimanded by Chanyeol and the rest of his members to do so, saying that it was dangerous to do that.

But even so, I knew from the very bottom of my heart, that Baekhyun is not at all evil as they say he is. The sound of the clock bell disturbed my thoughts, announcing that six has struck. At the exact moment, my door flew open with Xiumin and Chen side by side. They both sat at my bedside floor, "Are you feeling better now, Eun Hee?"

I hesitated to speak, but I assume I was all fine now since I wasn't trashing or throwing anything around me unlike the previous hours. "That's good. At least that would secure our sanity for now." said Chen, relieving himself from his weary state.

I ran my fingers down my hair, playfully staring down my toes. "Has he been found yet?" Chen and Xiumin exchange silent looks, seemingly answering my question with just one glance from the both of them. I shut my eyes close and continued to speak, "Then, is it alright to speak with Chanyeol for a while?" "Uhm, he strictly said that-" "Let me speak with him!" I plead.

"Ah-" Xiumin, who was as close as fully standing, was immediately stopped when Chanyeol waltz in the room. "It's fine. I'll talk to her, go join the rest outside the building. We'll be on our way in a little while.." The duo hastily made an exit out the room, avoiding irrelevant conflict that may be heard with the two temporary platinum couple enemies.

Chanyeol freely sat on the corner of my bed, hands extending behind him. "Yelling at your beloved friends like that must mean that you have something to say to me." "Please, if you're going to look for Baekhyun, please let me look for him as well! You all say that it has nothing to do with me, but it has! There's no way Baekhyun would target me for no reason. So please, I think I could lead him out and-" "And what? You're going to talk to him and ask why he intended to kill you that night? To persuade him not to do it anymore and attend school like nothing happened?"

"Do you even know how big of a consequence he has on his life right now? Don't you even wonder, for the past 24 hours you've experienced that dangerous side of him, didn't you stop your worry and think that maybe the reason why he needs to kill you isn't because he wanted to, but he needs to? And haven't you ever thought how many times he has murdered innocent people with that filthy hands of his? Have you?"

My heart clench tight, being pushed hard till I stood in a dead end without any valid retort. "And here I thought you were the leader that may be able to change anyone. You, haven't you thought at least once, that he only needed someone to talk to? Someone who may be able to understand his situation and maybe change his mind about everything?"

Chanyeol seemed quite done with the argument and towards me right now. He covered me back with the blanket that lie idle by the side of my bed. "He's not my concern now. It's you who I'm worried about. Don't forget that you totally lied to me about whom you were going to be meeting with, and here I thought that I was protecting you well, but I guess I thought wrong, huh. To tell you the truth, I was quite embarrassed to be informed that Jongin was able to save you during that crucial time instead of me - the Platinum leader - to be your rescuer. That just goes to show that no matter what I do, or who I am, I would still be considered a level below Jongin. I'm right, am I not?"

"N-No! Y-You're-" "Please. No matter who you try to defend, there will always be one person who would end up getting hurt in the process." He leans in for a small peck on the forehead. "Even if I can't save you at times where I'm completely unaware of your situation, I just hope that I could at least be the reason for your smile. I'll be back."
