No Ordinary Peasant [Sashanne]

Chapter 12

Family is about surrounding yourself with people who love and support you.

Sometimes your blood family does not have your back as they should or maybe you aren't close with them. And that is okay.

Chosen family is about creating the safe environment you need. This can consist of many different people like a partner, close friends, adoptive families, and whoever allows you to be your true self.

Anne's POV

"This is all I ever wanted." I felt my cheeks heating up as Sasha rubbed her thumb on my hand. "I only ever wanted to be understood."

I felt like my heart was gonna explode from holding hands with a beautiful girl.

Suddenly, the Earth began to shake like an earthquake. Everything began vanishing in the blink of an eye. Wall after wall. Person after person.

"What in tarnation is going on?" I leaped to the edge of Sasha's hospital bed, still holding her hand.

Sasha stared into the oblivion, unphased by the commotion.

I reached out for Grime, but he was gone. He must have dissolved along with everything else.

Next thing I knew, my limbs starting deteriorating. "Ahhh! Sasha, why aren't you freaking out?" I waved my hands over her eyes as she still didn't move or blink.

I watched as my fingers and arms withered away until there was nothing left.

There was a flash with a loud screech sound.

-Present Day-

I thrusted away, pushing and throwing hands.

"Woah, easy there tiger!" I just barely missed Sasha as she sat next to me with those concerned ocean eyes. "Good morning to you too."

"Sasha! Where are we?" I frantically looked around, scanning the room.

"We are in my room, silly. You know, the my room in the castle. You feeling okay?" She felt my forehead, checking for a temperature.

"I'm fine, just remembering." I heaved.

"I understand. I don't think any of us can forget that awful reality, but look at me." She turned my chin to make eye contact with her. "We are safe. Everything is basically how it was, but with a few improvements."

She kissed my nose before we both got up.

"By the way, Braddock came by earlier and dropped off yours clothes. Sprig's clothes was taken to his room down the hall." Sasha stepped into her walk in closet, searching for an outfit.

"Cool! Thanks!" I changed into a ratty sweater along with my ripped shorts and holey socks.

Sasha came out in a new armor suit. It was different from her armor from the night we met. This one grey with red and pink accents with a spiky shoulder pads and a skull on the belt.

"So whatcha think?" I checked out the suit.

"I like it, but it aren't we just going to eat breakfast in the dining hall?" I bluntly admitted.

"You are right." She raised a brow, admiring my raggedy clothes. "If I am changing, we gotta get you some new clothes."

She walked out of her closet, taking my hand and placing a kiss on it. "My lady."

I tried playing along, but it was too much for my heart. It was doing backflips as a burning sensation stung my face.

Sasha's closet was huge with so many possible options. Many new knight suits, a few pretty dresses, and white suit with red and yellow compliments.

"Hey Sash, I think you should wear this one." I lifted the hanger, showing it to her as a little piece of paper fell off.

"I have never seen that one before." She picked the scrap paper off the floor, reading it aloud. "To Sasha. I know you are not a fan of frilly dresses, so I have this suit tailored for you. From Grime."

She did not hesitate, taking the hanger and rushing to put it on.

"I love it!" Sasha twirled around. The suit really complimented her figure.

I stood speechless, checking her out head to toe. "You look so handsome!" I ran up, hugging her tight.

"Gee, thank you! No one has ever said anything like that before." Her cheeks turned bright pink before covering her entire face.

"You've never been complimented?" I was confused.

She waved her hands, "No no, not that! No one has ever called me handsome before. I kinda liked it."

"Awww," I couldn't stop myself from cooing. I placed a peck on her temple. "You will always be handsome in my eyes, Sasha."

Her facial expression softened a great deal, the blush growing darker by the second.

"And you will always be beautiful to me." She placed her hand on my cheek. "Come on, we need to get you ready before father sends Braddock to break the door down."

She drug me into the closet as I tried outfit after outfit. Dress after dress.

"Too puffy."

"Too skimpy."

"Too short."

"Too long."

"And you are too picky, there is no clothes left to choose from." Sasha rolled her eyes. I assumed she was getting tired of waiting on me.

"What about that one?" I pointed to the one behind her that we missed.

Sasha grabbed it, passing it to me as I pulled it on. It was a glistering blue with lace straps. I looked in the mirror, stunned at the way it flowed. "This is the one for sure!"

"Great! Yo- you look amazing!" I turned back to Sasha as her mouth hung open.

I giggled, wrapping her hand in mine as we headed down stairs for breakfast.

"Good morning, girls!" Grime sat at the head of the table as Sprig took a seat next to him.

We sat on the opposite side. Sasha pulled my chair out for me, being a sweetie.

She is just adorable.

As she sat between me and Grime, Percy and Braddock came in, holding hands.

"I asked our servants to join us for meals from now on. It really completes the table if I say so." Grime claims with great confidence, appearing proud.

We all ate the wonderfully prepared breakfast: eyes, buttered biscuits, gravy, sizzling bacon, sausage, and fresh squeezed orange juice.

I felt my heart stop for a second, looking down to see Sasha holding my hand.

When I glanced back up, she was smiling. All I could do was return a glowing beam in return.
