Hospitals in those times weren't exactly like they are today. Most of the time they were used as shelters for pilgrims and immigrants, hospices for the dying, almshouses for the old and poor, and/or a hospital for the sick and injured.
This was the same for the kingdom of Amphibiland. Many refugees, fallen knights, and children seeking nothing more than something to eat.
Sasha's POV
"Sasha? Sasha!" I could hardly make out what was going on around me.
What's going on? It is very dark. I cannot see anything. Why can't I just wake up? Oh my god am I dead? It makes sense, right? Total nothingness, but my subconscious mind. Wait, is this the bad place? No, I saw a bright light, not a overcome of blackness. I don't know. Sounds ridiculous.
"Sasha!" A low, but audible voice sounding from far away yipped out to me.
"Who's there? Where are you?" I advanced towards the voice, listening carefully.
The voice shrilled out again, "Sasha, it's me!"
"Huh," I swiveled around, searching for a potential person or something pointing me in the right direction.
"I'm over here." The voice practically hissed in my ear, but I felt myself going crazy because I did not see.
"I don't see you. I don't understand. Is this some kind of game?" I started becoming discouraged about the whole thing.
I dropped to the ground, or the metaphorical ground at that. I pulled my knees to my chest, wanting to let the water works of tears stream out. I ducked my head, refusing to acknowledge the emptiness of wherever I was.
I could overhear light foot steps come ever so closer. "Sasha." The voice said, holding out a hand.
I peeked, seeing a glowing yellowish gold being. I brought my head further up to get a better look.
"It can't be! You- you're me!" I coughed out, feeling like I had seen a ghost, which may or may not be true.
"Ah yes, we are the same." My glowing twin replied and nodded
I scooted back away from her, panicking and hyperventilating.
"Sasha? We need to talk."
She put her hands on my shoulders, taking deep breathes with me.
"Okay, okay." I huffed out one last large breath.
"So first things first, you are not dead." She calmly states.
"Oh thank frog!" I light-heartedly cheered.
"But you are in critical condition in the hospital." She dropped the news like a pile of bricks.
My heart stopped as the news sank in. "What about Anne? My father?"
"They are fine." She assures me. "They have been worried sick for you. Those two have refused to leave your side since bringing you to the hospital."
"This all my fault though. I made a deal with that devil of a witch and ruined everything." I whined, wishing I could return to my old life.
"That is actually something I wanted to talk to you about." She expresses with a firm look.
I felt hopeful, wondering what she could possibly be referring to.
"Fixing things after a witch has created an alternate world is tricky, yes. You got your memories back, which is step one. Step two is the harder one." She pokes me where my heart is located. "You have to come to terms with what you truly want in life. When you figure that out, you will be able to leave this false reality."
I pondered on the statement. What do I truly want? I always wanted to be a knight in shining armor and a life of adventure. I wanted to know what family really was, who my family actually was. All these things that I thought I wanted were not what I truly wanted after all.
"I think I got it," I peered up, noting that my clone was starting to fade away.
"Right on time. Looks like you are waking up now. Good luck out there." She disappeared to nothingness.
...
I jolted awake with Anne laying her head on the bed, snoozing away. My father snored on the other side, sounding like a toad croaking.
I smiled, not moving too much.
These two mean a lot to me.
I debated whether or not to wake them, but decided I should to ease their worries.
I ran my hand through Anne's curls, scratching her head. "Anne. Annnnnne."
She waved her hand, "Five more minutes."
"Anne, wake up." I tried again.
She cracked her eyes open just enough to see me before closing them again. "Sasha, can't you see I'm trying to sleep."
I waited until Anne's eyes shot open, realizing her silliness. "SASHA!" She rejoiced, waking father.
"Sasha, sweetheart! You're awake! Thank frog!" Father praised, jumping for joy.
There was no denying it, they were my family along with Sprig, Percy, and Braddock.
"Uffff," I carefully sat up, feeling pins and needles in my spine.
"Careful, sweetie. That cut on your back was deep." Grime cautioned me with worry in his good eye.
Anne helped me any way she could, making sure I wasn't in any pain.
"Are you guys okay?" I asked, wanting to know.
Father seemed to be beaten up in places with fresh cuts and color distorted bruises. Anne had a burn around her neck from the shock collar.
"I'm so sorry. I was so selfish. I thought I knew what I wanted, but I didn't." I felt shamed, knowing what I had done.
Anne intertwined her hand in mine as father talked.
"Sasha, dear, you don't have apologize any more. Your friend, er, Anne and I have discussed things over since bringing you here. We aren't mad, and understand."
"This is all I ever wanted." I grazed my thumb over the back of Anne's soft hand. "I only ever wanted to be understood."

I feel like everyone who reads this will assume Owl House reference. I mean in a way, yes. I actually had this idea planned before the recent episode of The Owl House.
