Sky People's ship
Teya knew what pain felt like. She had felt it almost every day since the sky people returned, but she had never felt pain like this. She saw the fatal blade move closer to her chest. She tried to think of something happy, something to avoid the thought of the cold hand of death inches away from her. She needed to feel something that wasn't fear or pain but couldn't. She could only focus on the sharp blade hovering above her chest. Teya knew it was over when she felt the first string of pain. Teya's strength faded, her mind crumbling under the weight of the agony. Her legs wouldn't hold her body weight anymore, so she crashed onto the hard metal of the ship. Teya grabbed her stomach putting as much pressure as she could. Everything happened so quick she was fighting Quaritch for everything he had done to her. Her mother's death, Spider's capture, and the death of her Lo'ak. Teya stopped to remember what Tonowari had said about the Tulken 'they came to believe that killing, no matter how justified, only brings more killing.' Her morals faltered, giving the demon the second to cause the fatal wound to the already broken girl.
A faint scream was heard in the distance as Teya watched with blurry eyes. Four figures crowded around her, and she felt them drag her away from the battle to a secluded area.
"Neteyam put pressure on it now", someone ordered. Neteyam obeyed their command pressing his hands to one of his family's wounds for the second time.
Teya could somewhat make out the outline of her brother "Tsu'tey", she whispered.
"Hey Teya, it's ok, you're ok," he said, trying to convince Teya, but it was apparent he was trying to convince himself his little sister would be ok. Teya's breath was ragged and getting slower by the minute.
Teya looked to the sky and saw her and Lo'ak's stars shine brightly; she knew he was waiting for her. Tears slowly fell down her face; the pain disappeared, and she couldn't feel it. She was numb.
Teya weakly grabbed Neteyam's arm, signalling for his attention. His golden eyes, filled with tears, landed on her blue ones. "I told you I'd do anything for your family", she stuttered.
Neteyam shook his head. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you or Lo'ak", he cried.
"You did protect me every day. I feel safe with you," she said, her voice becoming nothing but a whisper.
Her eyes landed back on her brother. "Please don't leave me, Te. You can't leave me. You're my little sister".
Tears streamed faster down her cheeks as she shakily held his hand. His walls crumbled at her touch. "It's ok. I don't feel it anymore, and it doesn't hurt", she promised.
The edges of Teya's vision went black, and her arms felt like it was made of brick. She felt the overlooking darkness above waiting to take her away. Her heartbeat slowed, but something in her kept fighting, refusing to let her breath be stolen from death. "I want to go home."
" We're going home; just please don't go, Teya. I'm sorry," he wailed in agony. Her arm dropped from his face, and her pupils expanded, leaving them almost lifeless. Her eyes drained of colour as she stared at the sky. Tsu'tey fell back onto his knees but wouldn't give up yet. Teya was still breathing, which gave him the slightest glimpse of hope.
The ship suddenly jerked to the side, throwing the kids off balance. The boat was sinking, and it was sinking fast. Tsu'tey grabbed onto Teya's body. "Go to your parents now", he instructed.
"I'm not leaving you here", Neteyam argued. He had lost too much today to lose anymore.
"Im going to take Teya away from here; you need to be with your parents before Quaritch finds us."
Neteyam hesitantly stood up, watching Teya's chest rise up and down extremely slowly. "Nete, if you see my father, tell him what happened, please" The Sully boy nodded at the request.
"Be careful", Neteyam pleaded, grabbing his sisters.
Tsu'tey nodded, calling his ilu. Tsu'tey rode over to the rock where Tsireya was protecting Lo'ak.
Tsireya stood up, grabbing Lo'ak's dagger, but she quickly dropped it when she saw the body of her best friend "no, no no", she cried, running up to Tsu'tey.
"Is she...?" Tsireya asked, tears pooling in her waterline
"She's still here. Barely," he responded sadly.
He lifted her up, placing her next to Lo'ak, their hands inches from touching. The lovers finally looked at peace; nothing could stop their love, not even death. No matter what situations they found themselves in, they would always find a way back to each other.
