What if Eywa never gave Lo'ak the choice to come back?

———————————————————————————

Every Na'vi has a song chord. The first bead added for your birth. The last bead for your death. Li'teya never thought she would be sitting in the ceremonial tent, adding Lo'ak's final bead. Her fingers traced over his song chord; she held her lover's life in her hands. A bead for when he first tamed an Ikran, a bead for his first hunt, a bead for the first time they kissed.

Her voice was barely above a whisper as she sang for every memory, moment and bead she shared with Lo'ak.

Her glossy eyes looked up at his lifeless body in the cot, ready to prepare for his funeral. It was tradition if it was possible for the parents to  sing the song chord, but Neytiri insisted the young girl do it, so there she was singing the final line of her love's song chord. A final reminder that he was gone.

Jake led the family on his ilu, which slowly dragged the leaf-carrying Lo'ak's body. The rest of the Sully and Evans families rode their ilus next to the wrap, savouring their little time left with the boy. Li'teya sobbed quietly, keeping her eyes trained on Lo'ak. All of the blood had been cleaned up, along with his bullet wounds wrapped up, so it looked like he was only sleeping. Except he was stuck in a sleep to which he would never wake. Their Ilus slowed as they hovered over the yellow anemone, which made Teya look down at the ocean floor. This was it. The last time she'd ever see him. The last time she'd ever hold his hand. The last she'd ever kiss his lips. The families slid off their ilus as Jake slowly carried Lo'ak out of the leaf. Tuk placed her tiny hand on her brother's temple while Neteyam held his cheek lovingly. Teya placed a gentle kiss on his cold lips. "I'll find you in the stars, my love".

Jake and Neytiri held their son as they swam underwater closer to the glowing anemone. The kids ducked their heads just under the water line to watch. Tears streamed down her face into the sea as Tsu'tey and Neteyam held her hand.

Neteyam reached his free hand down, trying to grab his little brother, but it was no use; the sea pulled Lo'ak into the anemone until he was gone. The sea gives, and the sea takes. The sea gave Li'teya a new home and new friends but took the most important person in her life.

Memories of him started playing in her mind. She remembers everything about him. His smile, laugh, jokes, his favourite colour and food, the way he devoured his favourite fruit from the trees. Everything suddenly felt nostalgic. She didn't want to be alone. Lo'ak was Teya's home, but his home was with the ancestors. The stars shone better that night than they ever had before. The night sky just gained a new angel.

omfg this literally made me cry when I was writing it. I am so glad I decided to keep them alive but my mind was nagging at me to write an alternative ending.

Please comment anything you wanna see of Li'teya and Lo'ak. Like them as parents or as teenagers doing silly teenager shit.

I see you
