Pandora Reef

Metkayina clan

———————————————————————————

*Five years later*

23-year-old Li'teya stood before Tonowari as Ronal removed his Olo'eyktan mantle, placing it on Li'teya's shoulders. Unlike in Omatikaya culture, the leader does not have to die for the mantle to be passed on.

"Li'teya te Evans Okoyia'ite" Ronal shouted to the clan as the older woman placed the Metkayina crown on her head. Li'teya bowed at Ronal and Tonowari as she turned to face the clan. They all shouted loud cheers as Li'teya smiled brightly at her mate, whose eyes were filled with pride.

*One year later*

"Lo'ak", Teya shouted the 24-year-old, running into their shared mauri. The couple had moved out of their parent's hut when Li'teya became leader, much to their parent's disagreement.

"Dadddddd", Teya said, whining like she was five again.

"No, I do not trust that boy", Freddie dismissed, shaking his head.

"But we've been together for over five years now; we need our own space.

Freddie sighed, Tsu'tey had already moved out to be with Tsireya, so it was just him and Li'teya. "Are you sure you are ready for this daughter?"

Teya's eyes lit up as she jumped up and down. "Yes, yes, I am so ready for this", Teya pouted slightly, giving her father puppy eyes.

"Ugh, fine, but you must come to visit me, and I do not want any surprises" Freddie narrowed his eyes at his daughter. She knew exactly what he was referring to but ignored it, jumping into his arms.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you, dad."

"What is it?" Lo'ak asked, putting the knife he was sharpening down. He looked up at his panicked mate, his heartbeat immediately. He stood up so he was in front of her, grabbing her shaky hands.

"Princess, what's wrong."

Teya's eyes scanned Lo'ak's face. "I've just been to see Ronal because, you know, I haven't been feeling well recently."

Lo'ak nodded as she spoke, "Is something wrong? Are you ok?"

"Ronal was doing her normal checkup when she found something irregular." Teya looked down, avoiding Lo'ak's gaze, but he cupped her cheeks, forcing her to look at his amber eyes.

"Irregular? What does that mean?"

Teya opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. She didn't know how to phrase this without him freaking out.

"Te, if something is wrong, please tell me so we can work this out."

"Im pregnant"

It was Lo'ak's turn to be speechless. Pregnant. He was going to be a dad.

"Pregnant. Like there is a baby in there," he pointed at her stomach.

"That is usually how pregnancy works, skxwang", Teya joked, but her smirk dropped when Lo'ak still wouldn't speak. "I know we said we'd wait, and I'm not quite sure how this happened but ."

Teya's rant was interrupted as Lo'ak crashed his lips onto hers. He hugged her waist, lifting her up. He pulled back, staring at her blue eyes. "We're having a baby", he smiled.
