Would highly recommend listening to the song
Grief. There are five stages to overcoming the overwhelming sense of loss. Each family member surrounding the youngest sully boy displayed one of the stages.
Stage one denial. Neytiri kneeled next to her youngest son, screams ripping through her throat as she refused to believe her son was gone. She held his head against her chest, whispering prayers to Eywa to return her child.
Stage two anger. Jake pressed the intercom around his neck, arguing with Quaritch over the return of his two daughters. He had just lost a kid; he was not going to lose anymore. Rage swept through his veins as the killer's voice threatened to kill his daughters.
Stage three bargaining. Neteyam sat next to Li'teya shaking his head. He is the older brother. It is his job to protect Lo'ak. It was his job. "It should have been me", he repeatedly whispered. Why should his little brother pay the price because he didn't protect him? Neteyam stared at the lifeless body of his brother, praying to Eywa he could take his place.
Stage four depression. Spider had been captured by the sky people six months ago in the forest. All he thought about was the day his family would rescue him, and they would be together again, and this was not the reunion he had dreamed about. Crying over his childhood best friend's death at the hands of his father. Tears streamed down his face as he watched his brother's lifeless body being held by Neytiri.
Step five acceptance. Tsireya was so excited at the arrival of the Omatikaya people six months ago. She got to find new friends, love and a new family. Her mother had prepared Tsireya for death as the leader's daughter. She held funerals and was quick to accept that they had passed onto Eywa Lo'ak was no different. She grabbed his cold limp hand, sad he was gone from their plane of living but happy he had joined the ancestors and was no longer in pain.
Finally, there was Li'teya. Sure, she felt like she shouldn't be alive instead of him and couldn't believe her love was dead, but she felt something beyond anger. Beyond rage. Beyond any other emotion, she had ever felt. She craved revenge. Revenge on the sky, people. Revenge on the demons. Revenge on Colonel Miles Quaritch. Li'teya slowly stood up, grabbing her bow from the floor. Her eyes drifted to the burning ship, a fire burned in her eyes. She watched Neytiri, Jake, and Freddie disappear into the wreckage, their personal vendettas taking hold of them.
"Li'teya", Neteyam warned, but she didn't listen. "Li'teya, please", he begged.
"He killed Lo'ak Nete; I am not letting him get away", she mumbled.
"Then I am going with you. I've already lost my brother, and I will not lose you too".
Li'teya's face was void of any emotion except fury. "Neteyam", she started, but he shook his head, standing before her.
"No, Tsu'tey is my best friend. My sisters are on that ship; my fucking parents are on that ship. Do not tell me to stay here," he interrupted. She just nodded at his words.
"Just don't get in the way", she ordered, calling her Ikran. Teya jumped onto his back, connecting their queues. Szay immediately felt the sadness hidden with anger.
" I'm so sorry te te", Szay breathed.
Teya shook her head. "That demon will die for what he's done, even if it is the last thing I do. Thank you for flying with me, my brave warrior," she whispered as she dived off his back onto the ship's deck.
