Chapter 9

Previously on Chapter 8

He mound the horse and offers a hand to me. I place my hand on his, letting him pulls me up to the horse. I wrap my arms around his torso, leaning my head against his back. Even though I just revived, I still feel slightly tired from the battle. But even so, for the first time... I feel it was worth the sacrifice. I don't mind going through that death... seeing how everyone are safe.

-Sleepless Night-

Y/N P.O.V

We finally reached the Survey Corps base. I get off the horse so Levi can bring the horse back to its stable. The others head towards the stable to return their horses to their respective stables. I just stand outside as I wait for them to get done.

Sasha walks out of the stable. "We should head to the dining room now! I'm starving!" She said. I blink my eyes at what she said. She instantly walks off without waiting anyone to say anything back. I raise an eyebrow at her.

"Don't mind her... she's always like that" Eren said, as he walks passed me while giving my shoulder a gentle pat. I know that he means no harm in doing so, but it still make me flinched when his hand makes contact with my body. He turn to look at me, noticing my reaction. "Sorry..." he said.

"It's okay... I'm just still not used to be around others" I said. He just hums at what I said. I turn to look forward and keeps walking. Neither of them try to strike a convo with me. They seem to know that I still needed time to get used to my new environment.

After a while of walking, we finally reached the dining hall. I sit down with the rest of them after getting my food. I eat in silence as they talk about today's mission, which was mostly me who killed the titans.

"You're really awesome out there, Y/N" Sasha said. I just give her a small smile, while eating my food. Everyone seems pretty welcoming towards me. But even so, deep down I still don't know whether to trust them or not.

After dinner, we head back towards the dormitory area. I share a room with Sasha. The girl instantly falls asleep as soon as her head makes contact with the pillow. I can hear her snore from where I'm laying.

I yawn softly, feeling sleepy. I turn to lay on my side and stares at the wall. My eyelids slowly getting heavier as it starts to get harder to keep them open. So, I finally give in and closes them as I let myself drift off to sleep.

Dream

I slowly open my eyes, only for them to snap open. I look around the place. I realize I'm back in the lab. I struggle to break free from the bonds. I try to scream, but my voice didn't come out.

I turn my head and fear starts to crept up within me when I realize I'm surrounded by the scientists. They each hold a sharp object, like knife, saw, and others. I try to plead with them to let me go, but again... I can't let my voice out. One of them approaches me with the knife. I shake my head and struggle harder.

End of Dream

I jolt awake with a scream. I breathe heavily as I try to calm myself. It's just a nightmare... no, it was a memory. A horrible one.

I flinch when I hear a snore. I turn my head to the side to see it's just Sasha. I'm surprised she's still sound asleep after I screamed. I let out a sigh and lay back down. But I'm too scared to fall asleep. I run my hand through my hair and rest it on the back of my head like a pillow.

It's been years since I left that place. But the memories still burns in my head. Everything still seem fresh, like it just happened recently. I don't think I can ever be free. Those memories will keep haunting me, until the end of time. I can't even die. If only I could... it would have put an end to those torturous memories.

Seeing as my mind now refuses to let me sleep. I decide to take a midnight walk. I know there's curfew in this place. But I couldn't care less. I don't want to stay in this room.

I move my feet, placing it on the floor. I change out of my pajamas, into a normal one. I quietly make my way out of the room because I don't want to wake Sasha. Although, I am pretty sure that she's not going to wake up seeing how she didn't even budge when I screamed.

I place my hands inside the pockets of my hoodie. I look around the place, observing everything. It's quite dark out here. But I'm still able to see quite well. I'm not sure if it has something to do with me being an Ajin, or if my sight are good since the beginning.

I stop by the bridge, and decided to take a seat on the ledge. I climb into the ledge and sits down. I hug on of my knee, while letting the other dangle over it. I stare at the water as the light of the moon making it shimmer so beautifully.

"What are you doing out here?" Someone said, making me jump. I turn my head to see it's Levi. He walks closer towards me, staring at me with a stern gaze. I lower my other foot, letting both dangle. He leans his back against the ledge, while still looking at me.

"I'm sorry. I know there's a curfew. But I just couldn't sleep, and I can't stay in the bedroom. It's suffocating" I said. Levi let out a sigh and gently tug my hand, making me step off the ledge and stands next to him.

"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked. His voice sound a little gentler from when he first found me out here. I just shake my head, lowering my gaze. He hum softly and ruffles my hair, making me flinch at the act. "Still uncomfortable around human, huh?" He said.

"I'm sorry..." I mumbled. Tears starts to build up in my eyes, thinking I might have offended him. But instead of scolding me or something, I feel a pair of arms around me. I flinch at his action, but didn't back away. Instead, I feel myself relaxing, as I lean my head against his chest.

I close my eyes, finally letting my tears fall from my eyes. Levi said nothing, just held me close. He gently runs his hand through my h/c hair. I don't know why... but being with Levi kind of give me comfort.
