Chapter 39

I place my hand behind her knees as I pull her to sit on my lap. I hug her tightly as I try to calm her the best I could. Her crying gradually becomes louder by the seconds. It seems like all her pent up emotions have finally came crashing down on her. It hurts me to see the girl I love going through so much. What can I do to make her feel better?

Y/N P.O.V

Turns out Jean is unable to kill the two. But they've agreed to join our side to help us find a way to clear our names as the Survey Corps members. I summon my IBM to supervise the man Levi had interrogate to make sure he didn't escape. Of course, we also need to tie him up just in case.

I turn my head to look at the man to see him shaking in fear as my IBM crouch in front of him. I let out an amused chuckle at the sight and shakes my head. My smile turned into a frown as I run my hand through my hair.

"Having to be on the run truly sucks. I wish things will turn back to normal soon" I muttered. Levi hear what I said and turn to look at me. He gently place his hand on my head as he ruffled my hair.

"It will, Y/N... I'm sure of it" he said. I just give hum a small smile. He removed his hand from my head and gently grab my hand. He entwine our hands together. I just stare at our hands, still frowning.

"Even if things went back to normal... what would happen to me, Levi? As long as the government is interested in putting experiments on a Demi-Human like me... I'll never truly be free. They'd try everything to get their hands on me" I said. Levi gives my hand a light squeeze. I turn my head to look at him with a sad gaze. "I'll constantly live in worry that one day, they'd actually come for me. I don't want to go through those horrible things again..." I said.

"I'll make sure they won't, Y/N" he said. I just stare at him, not knowing what to say. "Have I ever broke my promise to you?" He asked. I shake my head at what he said. Never... Levi never broke a single promise he had made for me.

He gently cups my cheek with his free hand. "Then trust me that I will never let anything bad happen to you..." he said. His thumb gently caressing my skin. His gentle gesture makes me feel calm. I close my eyes as I place my hand on top of his.

"Captain!" A voice said. I open my eyes to see Connie. He walks towards us holding a piece of parchment in his hand. "We just received this..." he said. Levi takes it from him. He unscroll it and start to read.

"Seems like the coup d'état is a success. They have overthrown the government. It's been exposed that the recent king is a fake. Along with Erwin's name is cleared" he said. He turn his head to look at me. He send me a soft smile. "That means we're no longer fugitives" he said. My eyes widen as a smile starts to form on my lips.

"Thank goodness!!" I said, happily. I throw my arms around his neck. He wrap his arms around my waist. I bury my face in his shoulder as he holds me close. I'm so happy that we don't have to be in hiding anymore.

"That's not possible..." the man whimpered. I turn my head to look at him over Levi's shoulder. I pull away from Levi and stand up, making my way over to him. I send him a sly grin.

"You thought. Justice will always find a way to win against those who have bad intentions... and it's been proven that we're innocent" I said. I turn to look at my IBM as she slowly vanishes. I turn to look at the man again.

"The survey corps may win... but will you? After all you're still a target of the government. You'd be send to a lab!" He said. I frown at what he said. Levi walks over to us as he stands next to me. He kicks the man on his chest, pressing him firmly against the tree.

"They can keep on dreaming about getting their hands on my girlfriend. Over my dead body!" He said. He grabs the man's collar and yank him up until they're eye to eye. "No one is getting near Y/N as long as I'm around. I'd like to see them try... I will murder every single one of them if they so much as touch a strand of Y/N's hair" he said, glaring angrily at the man. The man starts shaking in fear at how intimidating Levi is acting.

I walk in the middle of everyone else. Levi demands them to surround me in case anyone try something to hurt me. Levi is not with me as he says he has things to do.

"That girl is a freak! Hand her over to the government! She's a monster!" A voice said. I turn my head to see a man. His finger is pointing straight at me. I frown as I turn my gaze away. Why does this have to happen to me?

We walk towards an area where there's a podium. I notice Erwin standing on top of it. "Attention!" He said. We stop walking as I stare at Erwin, wondering what he's planning to do.

"No one is allowed to lay a finger on our cadet, Y/N L/N! She is a valuable ally to the survey corps and has been fearlessly fighting along side our regiment to keep hope alive! It is all thanks to her that a lot of our soldier remains alive!" Erwin said. I hear everyone murmuring among themselves.

I turn my head to look at them to see the way they stare at me have changed. If they were staring at me with fear and doubt. Now they have a look of admiration in their eyes, and it's all directed towards me.

I notice Levi walking up the podium. "Hunting her or handing her over to the scientist is strictly prohibited! Those who dared to defy this rule will be severely punished!" He said. He takes out a parchment and unfold it to reveal the bounty poster that's been placed on me.

"And all bounty money that have been placed on Y/N's have officially been removed! She is as free as the rest of us and is an official citizen within these walls!" He said. He tears the parchment into shreds and throws it up, letting it scatter around.

"You hear that, Y/N? You're free..." Sasha said. I turn to look at her and smiles. Tears of happiness starts to stream down my cheeks. I let out a happy laugh as I throw my arms around her. Everyone else let out a laugh, feeling happy for me. They join in the hug, giving me a group hug. I smile happily as I close my eyes.

Levi walks off the podium and walks over to me. I pull away from the group hug to face him. "I told you that you have nothing to worry about..." he said, smiling softly at me.

"Levi..." I said, smiling happily. I can't believe he did this for me. Happy tears starts to stream down my cheeks. I rush towards him, throwing my arms around his neck. "Thank you so much!" I said.

"Hey... I promised you, didn't I?" He said. He let out a soft chuckle as he wrap his arms around me. I pull away to look at him while smiling happily. I nod my head, and place my chin on his shoulder again.

Thank goodness... I'm free! I don't have to worry about getting taken in by the government and having to go through those horrible experience again. It's all thanks to Levi!
