Okay but like fantasy AU. Knight akito, hermit ena. The knights are tasked to hunt down mystical creatures for experimentation. Akito risks his job (and head) to hide ena from his subordinates, because he's seen the shit they put beings like his sister through. He does everything in his power to help ena escape. Does he admit it? No, he only claims he's doing it because his relatives would kill him if they find out he let their dirty hands on his sister.
But really, it's rooted in love. He doesn't want the only real thing he can call his "family" forcefully taken from him.
However one day, they're caught. Akito is arrested and sentenced to execution for failing to abide to royal orders, Ena is subjected to the horrible experimentation done on people like her that she'd wish she was executed instead.
Akito is banging on the cell bars as they drag Ena away from him, demanding- no- pleading for them to spare her, to take him instead.
And for the first time in years, Ena hears him call her "big sister". For the first time in years, Ena heard her little brother cry and scream for his sister. And for the first time ever, big sis isn't there to save the day.
And it pissed Ena. She would fight, claw her way out, use any magic she had, resist, kick, thrash, anything. She'd do anything to get out of the stinky room they put her in. She'd do anything to run to her little brother, hold him tight and run away to a place where they were both safe.
