"Arianne !" Baelon exclaims, quickly approaching his wife, who turns and smiles at her husband, letting him take her into his arms. "My love." Arianne whispers, gently grabbing his hands.
Baelon pulls back and he examines her face. "Are you alright?" Baelon asks, worried. He had dropped everything when he heard she was attacked. "I am fine, but it's not I who was attacked, it was the princess." Arianne says, they turn to see Alicent run into the bedroom.
"What happened?" Baelon whispers, worry and anger filling his features.
Arianne sighs. "That poor girl, I was just here to make a friend of the princess, when the guard at her door forbade me from passing, that's when I knew." Arianne says. She lowers her voice as she speaks. "There was a man in her bed, forcing her down. Thankfully, her dress was the only thing damaged." Arianne whispers, she doesn't want anyone else to hear.
Baelon wanted to rush into the bedroom and comfort Helaena, but it wasn't his place and he didn't want to cause her any more pain.
Aemond quickly approaches the double doors when he pauses at the entrance, his eyes finding Baelons briefly, before entering the room.
Baelon turns to Arianne, "Is the body still in her bedroom?" Baelon asks
Arianne shakes her head. "No the guards took the body and the handmaidens cleaned up any blood left behind. The princess didn't want to leave her bedroom." Arianne says
Baelon sighs, running a hand down Arianne's head. "Thank you for being there." Baelon whispers
Arianne smiles, tilting her head. "She's the mother of your child, of course." She replies with a soft breath.
Baelon grasps her frail arm, kissing her pulse. "Let's go, I'll speak with her when I can, but you need rest." Baelon orders softly.
....
Baelon spent all night at the foot of his bed as his wife slept peacefully. He couldn't sleep without thinking of Helaena. Despite doing everything he could to protect her, it still wasn't enough.
Baelon stands and he leaves the bedroom, finding Reckon at his entrance. "Baelon." Reckon whispers "Go, take care of Arianne, I need to see Helaena." Baelon states
Reckon nods, understanding.
....
Baelon walked through the halls in silence, he felt sick in his stomach. Suddenly he slows when he sees a pacing Aemond. He wore his best leather and a sword at his waist.
It was obvious that he couldn't sleep either.
Aemond finally looks up at the sounds of footsteps, his eyes meeting Baelons. "Baelon." Aemond whispers
Baelon sighs. "I was just passing....is Helaena truly staying in her chambers?" Baelon asks, concerned. "Unbelievably so, but it's her choice, she believes that with properly vetted guards, the attack won't happen again." Aemond sighs
Surprisingly they held a relatively normal conversation. Baelons hums. "My wife was concerned, she asked me to check if her chambers were properly guarded." Baelon states
Aemond stays silent. "Your wife doesn't know any of the king's guards, how would she know if we were properly guarded?" Aemond asked, annoyed.
Baelon wanted to roll his eyes, he didn't want to play any games at the moment, not when he was so worried for Helaena and his son.
"Tell my wife that, she's paranoid, but she trusts my judgment." Baelon says, tilting his head.
Aemond sighs heavily. "No attack on my sister has ever occurred. This castle is secured, I've made sure that we've vetted our men. But ever since you and your retched family have returned, drama has begun once again." Aemond states
Baelon scoffs. "Do you really think us so lowly? That we attack family?" Baelon asks
Aemond chuckles without any realm humor. "I seemed to have missed that memo when I lost my eye." Aemond states
Baelon felt his eyes twitch. He didn't say anything, he knew Aemond was tensed and worried for his sister. "You're right, but Rhaenyra has made us promise to be civil, no drama. Obviously, we aren't great on orders, but we've changed, and we're both no longer children." Baelon states
Aemond grips his belt, eyeing Baelon. Not long ago, they shared a bath quite intimately, and now they are at each other's throats.
"You're right, we're no longer children." Aemond admits
The tension filled the air. Baelon stepped closer to the prince, bringing a hand up and gripping the front of his shirt, bringing him closer.
Their eyes meet, violet on violet. Baelon lowers his gaze to Aemond's lips. "Every time I see your stupidly gorgeous face, I want to kill you. But I can't bring myself to, why is that Aemond? What is it about you that makes me feel so miserable and hungry at the same time." Baelon whispers
Baelon was honest, despite his intentions of manipulating Aemond, he couldn't lie to himself. Seeing Aemond so protective and worried about Helaena, someone he valued deeply, made him delirious with want.
Aemond brings a hand up and he cups the back of Baelon's head, his eyes hooded. He fought with himself in that moment, he craved him just as much, recalling his touch and attention. He just couldn't.
"Go to bed Baelon." Aemond whispers
Baelon understood, in that moment, he truly did. Neither of them wanted to ruin the moment, not with hate, or old grudges.
....
Baelon walked alone, his hand trailing along the walls, feeling for a hidden passage. Since he ran into Aemond, he couldn't enter the one that was easier to find.
Finally, with a soft click, the wall opens, showing many hidden passageways.
....
Helaena lay in her bed, in her hand was a long dagger, her grip tight. The princess was wide awake.
Baelon slowly approaches her bed. "Helaena." Baelon announces
Helaena quickly sits up with a gasp, raising her hand with the dagger pointed out towards him. Her chest rose and fell with great heaves, her eyes were wide and wild.
Baelon quickly holds his hands up in defense. "It's me, princess, I am not here to hurt you." Baelon whispers
Helaena slowly lowers her guard, sniffling, before tapping her bed. "Get over here." She mumbles the soft order
Baelon smiles sadly and he enters the familiar bed. "I understand you're afraid, but it's over now. You and Arianne killed that man." Baelon whispers
Helaena shakes her head. "Arianne did, I was just laying there useless." Helaena scoffs her herself. Baelon sighs and he gently grabs her hand, raising it in the air, to show her the marks left behind. "This shows to me, that you fought just as hard. Do not bring yourself down, just because you were scared. The maester told me that you left plenty of marks on the body. You did everything you could. Arianne is highly skilled, she was forced as a child to defend herself. So please don't hate yourself." Baelon begs softly
Helaena sniffs softly, leaning her head into his chest. "Thank you for being here, and thank your wife for protecting me." Helaena whispers
Baelon smiled, feeling relieved that she was okay. But he couldn't help but wonder where was Aegon in all of this, he was truly a horrible husband.
