Haunted Love

At six years old, a kiss so sweet
Set her tiny heart a beat
Her cousin's lips, a first love's kiss
But now, a memory she can't dismiss

Ten years gone, she's grown and bold
Confessed her love, her heart to hold
But he, uncertain, left her to wait
Leaving her love to ferment and sate

Haunted by a love that won't let go
She understands, yet can't help but know
That he was her first, her heart's desire
And letting go feels like a raging fire

She tries to move on, to see what's ahead
But thoughts of him, they won't leave her head
And every time they're together again
Her heart will flutter, her mind can't contain

She wonders what could have been
If he felt the same way, deep within
And yet the truth, it looms so large
A bond so close, family at large

So she'll hold on, to love and to cherish
The memory of him, forever to nourish
And though he's just a memory now
She'll never forget, she'll never bow

For every love, no matter how small
Is a valuable lesson, to stand tall
And though it hurts, and though it stings
She'll spread her wings, and take to the winds.

Years later, she looks back on that time
And sees how far she's come, how she's climbed
The memories still there, but now they're sweet
A reminder of love, that once made her heart beat

She's found new love, and it's strong and true
A love that's grown, and feels brand new
And though her first love, still holds a place
In her heart and mind, it's a different space

For now she knows, that love can be found
In the most unexpected of places, around
And though it hurts to let go, to say goodbye
It's a lesson learned, that makes her heart fly

So she holds on, to the love that she's found
And looks ahead, to what's yet to come around
For love is an adventure, a journey to take
And she's ready to explore, every step to make.
