Warnings- Suicide, Heartbreak, Angst

Ethan was a freshman in college who was struggling with serious depression. He's 23 and hasn't met his soulmate like everyone around him. He sat at a Starbucks typing away on his laptop with his earbuds In listening to music. His depression was pushing him over the edge lately with all the assignments he had and test on top of the fact he was being made fun of for not having a soulmate yet which means he still couldn't see color which was also pissing him off. Ethan slammed his laptop shut and groaned taking out his earbuds and looking up at the barista who was making drinks, he was cute looking he had long hair tied up into a man bun under his hat but he couldn't tell his eye color. Ethan looked away before the man could catch his gaze and scold him for something because that's one thing Ethan didn't need right now. He felt that one more small thing would push him over the edge, but when he looked up again the barista was staring him down and Ethan first read his name tag 'Mark...huh..' then they locked eyes and suddenly everything was brighter to Ethan. He could see the bright colorful shop that held a few bookshelves and colorful cups for sale and looked out the window next to him seeing the bright sunshine and it startled him slightly, when he turned back towards the counter the barista was gone. "Huh..great.." Ethan packed up his stuff and got up throwing his trash away but bumped into Mark on the way out "Oh I'm sorry!" Ethan said as he stepped back flustered and Mark just smiled at him "It's ok" Ethan seemed to hesitate before speaking again "This is going to sound sudden but uh...I think your my soulmate.." Ethan could see Marks confused look "Listen...don't take offense to this and believe me you seem like a nice guy but I'm not...well I'm not gay...I did see colors when we locked eyes but I don't even like guys...I'm sorry-" Mark looked at the tag on Ethan's bag "Im sorry Ethan.." Ethan just nodded as tears threatened to spill over, he pushed past Mark to go outside and it had started to rain "Perfect. Just fucking perfect." Ethan walked to his apartment complex which was a block away in the pouring rain with his laptop, by the time he got home his laptop was ruined and his clothes were soaked "Im tired of this! I'm not good enough for anyone!" Ethan kept his wet clothes on as he took the elevator to the roof.

Ethan had debated on doing this for years, he knew if he was going to kill himself it was going to be this way he was to go. The elevator reached the top and opened up onto the roof, it had puddles of rain everywhere which means slipping would be super easy. Ethan felt his heart thumping in his ears as he sat on the ledge of the roof looking out over the city as he cried talking to no one in particular not knowing that Mark (his soulmate) can hear him even though he's not near "I don't think I can do this anymore...I've been bullied for so long and now I can't even tell people I've found my soulmate because he's not even gay...why does god hate me?.." he wiped his teary eyes but that didn't do much as it was still pouring down rain so his hoodie was soaked. Ethan got mad and took his hoodie off leaving him in his thin t-shirt and jeans as he threw his hoodie to the side. "I don't know if I should do this...I just got to see the world in color..." as Ethan was debating he heard the door open behind him causing him to jump and turn around a bit as he tried to get up but his foot slipped causing him to fall backwards off the roof and as he fell he made eye contact with his soulmate clearly seeing his eye color for the first and last time and before he hit the ground he heard Mark scream out "Ethan I'm sorry! I love you so much!" Then it was all black. 'He loves me?!' Ethan thought to himself as he slowly faded away into the afterlife.

Mark's POV starting after Ethan left the shop.

Mark watched the beautiful boy walk away, I wasn't sure what was going through my head when I told him that. Of course I was gay but I had never came out to anyone and he didn't look like the type to be gay. But then he seemed so happy to be my soulmate, I could see him holding back tears as he pushed past me into the pouring down rain and then he disappeared. "What have I done..." Mark went to go clock out and as he was gathering his stuff he heard something almost as if someone was talking to him but no one was around so he just decided to listen because it sounded like the boy Ethan that he met 'I don't think I can do this anymore...I've been bullied for so long and now I can't even tell anyone I've found my soulmate because he's not even gay...why does god hate me?..' Mark teared up as he listened to the boy, he wasn't sure what the boy was planning but it didn't sound good. Mark got into his car and drove until he saw a person sitting up on the roof of an apartment building "Oh no- No no no!" Mark cried out and jumped out of his car not bothering to turn it off as he sprinted up the stairs because the elevator was to slow. He could hear Ethan talking about jumping causing tears to stream down Marks cheeks "What have I done?!" He screamed to himself as he flung the door to the roof open scaring the fragile boy on the ledge. What happened next was all in slow motion, Mark moved towards the boy who had gotten up to quickly when the door scared him and his foot slipped on the water covered ledge causing him to fall backwards off the roof and Mark let out a terrified scream as he watched his soulmate fall not being able to do anything about it. Before Ethan hit the ground Mark called out to him "Ethan I'm so sorry! I love you so much!" And then he hit the concrete. Mark couldn't look, all he heard was the sound and he broke down into tears as the colors faded away. His life is forever colorless.
