"You guys can come to my house on Saturday. My mom's okay with it." said Hailey.
Lily, Hailey and I were just walking home and talking about our weekend plans.
"I'll see you guys tomorrow." I said taking the turn to my house.
Honestly I couldn't wait to get home. That art lesson was the worst lesson in the history of lessons. That was the first time in my life that I was excited to get out of art. At least mom is making my favourite dinner. It's as if she knew I was having a horrible day.
"Hey dad, whatcha' doing?" I asked.
"Oh nothing, just making sure the garden looks neat."
"Dad, the garden is fine."
"Of course now it is." My dad smiled.
"Where's Mom?" I asked him putting down my skateboard.
"In the kitchen and put that skateboard inside young lady." My dad said jokingly.
I playfully rolled my eyes at him and put my skateboard inside. When I went into the kitchen, mom wasn't there, so I just walked into the dining room. I felt like I walked straight into Heaven. All my favourite food was there, along with my favourite deserts.
"Mom, you really know how to make someone's day." I said smiling.
"Uh uh uh, wait for the guests to arrive."
"Guests?"
"Go get changed into something nice." My mom said.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing now?" I asked.
"We both know the answer to that." My mom said more to herself than to me.
I went upstairs to my bedroom and changed into some trousers and a tank top . I just put on some comfortable boots to match my outfit. By the time I arrived downstairs the guests were already seated at the table. There was a man who looked about the same age as my dad, and there was a woman who looked a lot like my mom. When I landed my eyes on the last guest, I froze. Joshua freaking Evans was in my house, my dining room, sitting in my chair. He looked up and his eyes met mine. He scrunched up his nose and mouthed the word, "rat" while no one was looking.
I sat down on the chair next to him(it was the only free chair).
"This is my beautiful daughter, Sophia." my mom said beaming proudly.
"I remembered you used to always say you would name your future daughter Sophia." the woman said
She remembered?! What does she mean?!
The woman looked at me with a smile.
"Hi Mrs Evans." I said with my brightest smile ever.
The woman beamed back and said, " Hey Sophia."
"You can just call me Sophie."
"And you can just call me Anne." she said smiling.
I greeted Mr Evans and he asked if the skateboard he saw by the door was mine and we instantly started chatting about skateboarding. Mr Evans said I could just call him Ryan. Mrs Eva... Anne and my mom were chatting away and my dad was chatting to Josh. I would eavesdrop here and there to what my dad was saying just to make sure he wasn't embarrassing me. Josh really seemed to get along with my family... except me.
"So Anne, it seems like you knew my mom from before you just moved here." I said starting up a conversation.
"Oh yes sweetie, your mother and I were besties in high school back in the days." Anne said.
"Were?" I asked curiously.
"Curiosity killed the cat." said Josh under his breath so I could only hear. I ignored him and listened to Anne.
"It was sad. I moved away and I wasn't able to get your mom's phone number." Anne said. "We moved here, but I didn't know your mother was staying here too."
"Then I guess it must be fate." I said.
