Soph: 🙄
"Hey sweety, we're going out to dinner with Sophie's family, so please get changed." my mom said.
"You're a little late for that, mom." I said, chuckling.
"What?"
"Sophie already told me we're going out...she texted me."
"Oh ok." my mom smiled a really big smile.
........
Sophie's POV
"I was a real catch back then. The ladies loved me!" Ryan bragged.
"Oh really? It took you 3 years to get Anne's attention!" my mom said, laughing.
"That's because Anne's speciality is being difficult." Ryan said defending himself.
"Ryan, seems to me like you weren't exactly back then, what you're saying right now." I laughed.
"No, I could've dated any girl that threw themselves at me. Anne, however, was different. I liked Anne, because she was so difficult to get...and I liked the chase." Ryan said, smirking at Anne.
"Or mom just didn't notice you back then, dad." Josh said.
"Silence child." Ryan said.
We all broke out in laughter.
"Ashley used to hate me back then." my dad said.
"Hey, you hated me too!" my mom said.
"We would find every possible way to murder each other with our looks." dad said.
Josh and I both shot each other a knowing look. We were sitting next to each other by choice tonight. A few weeks ago, we would've sat as far as possible away from each other.
"How long did you hate each other for?" I asked.
"A few months or something like that." my dad said.
"No, it was a few weeks." my mom said.
"Babe, trust me. It was a few months." dad argued.
"No, weeks." mom said, rolling her eyes.
"You guys are so stubborn." Anne and Ryan said smirking.
"It's not my fault Jack can't admit when he is wrong." my mom said, playfully.
"So, Josh, Sophie, how's your Chemistry project going?" my dad said, changing the subject.
"It's going good, we just have to learn our presentation off by heart." I said.
"That's good." Anne said, shooting a smile at my mom.
I was about to say something but then I got a text from Max.
Max: Hey
Me : Can't talk, I'm busy
"Sophie?" Anne said.
"Uh yeah?" I said.
"Did you hear me?" Anne asked.
"Sorry, no." I said, feeling my face turn red.
"That's okay. I've heard that you skateboard, how long have you been skateboarding for?" Anne asked.
"Since I was 10 years old." I said.
"So for 6 years?" Josh said.
"The boy's a genius!" I said, smirking.
He playfully rolled his eyes at me and smiled.
"Why don't you get a new one. I don't mean to point out the obvious, but it's clearly falling apart." Josh said.
I bit my lip to prevent crying. I lowered my head so no one could see I was upset.
"So Anne, do you still have an affinity for flowers?" my mom asked Anne, changing the subject.
I love my mom.
"Did I say something wrong?" Josh whispered in my ear.
I lifted my head, looked at him, smiled and shook my head. I could tell he didn't believe me but he decided to drop the matter.
Max kept texting me, but I didn't want to be rude and go on my phone at the table. So I was smart and just excused myself to go outside.
Me: Maxi, I'm really busy
Max: What are you doing, homework?
Me: Not this again 🙄
Max: I'm calling
Max video called me and I decided to answer the phone, just to explain to him that we had to talk later.
"Hey, how are you?" Max asked.
"I'm good, you?" I asked.
"Yeah I'm good too...woah you look beautiful. What's the occasion?" Max asked.
"I'm having dinner at some fancy restaurant." I said.
"That's cool!" Max said.
"Sophie, your parents asked you to come inside to order dessert." Josh said.
"Is that Josh?" Max said.
"Yep, see you at school tomorrow Maxi!" I said, dropping the call.
"Maxi?" Josh asked with a smirk.
"Shut up." I said.
"You okay, Soph?" my mom asked me.
"Yep." I said, giving her a reassuring smile.
She smiled back and handed me the menu.
Best. Night. Ever.
