I don't know how I got here, but I cannot say I regret it. Clyde Donovan, our school's best, and most famous, football player, was carrying me bridal style to my classroom.
"Clyde, you can put me down, now," I scoffed, pushing against his chest.
He looked down and smiled at me, playfulness glistening in his eyes, "Psh, I haven't gotten my princess to her throne yet,"
"You're being silly. And people are staring," I added, making a note towards all of the people who were looking at us with their phones out.
He brought his face down next to me, his breath hot on my ear, "That's okay, let them talk,"
I shut up and just accepted the help, resting my head on his shoulder. Today was my first day of trying to walk without my crutches and of course I fell and twisted my ankle, which led me into this predicament.
Clyde has been helping me since I sat next to him at lunch that one day. He's helped me move around and occasionally even carried my belongings to my next classes. Despite the shit that gets talked about him, he's quite the sweetheart.
Before I knew it, my "knight in shining armor" fantasy was interrupted by Clyde placing me down into a chair.
"Good luck, princess!" He winked at me as his skipped out of the room. I could feel multiple pairs of eyes on me and I just wanted to shrink into my skin. God this is so embarrassing..
"So," I hear a voice call from behind me, "You're dating Donovan now? What, you two were just waiting for your partners to die?"
I turned around and came face-to-face with Wendy Testaburger. I know she was likely just hurt the her best friend's boyfriend was moving on after she had passed, but that didn't stop my blood from boiling. "Excuse me? That is such a sick thing to say!"
"And a sicker thing to do," she shot back, venom in her words. She crossed her arms, her group of friends watching with worry. Suddenly Tammy, someone I've grown close enough with to be able to call her my best friend, stepped in.
"Wendy! We're all still grieving here, including (Y/n). It isn't right to say that to her," Tammy tried to negotiate, compromise almost. It definitely did not work.
"Shut up, Tammy! You're a big fat slut! The only reason Kenny is with you is because you're easy!" Wendy spat, her face growing as red as a tomato. Her eyes raged with complete anger.
Tammy stepped back, her mouth gaped open. Neither of us had a clue what to say. Thank God we didn't have to say anything because our teacher walked in.
"What the fuck is going on in here? Whatever, turn to page 127, you fucking animals,"
Tammy slumped into her seat next to me and seemed distracted.
"Are you alright, Tam?" I whispered, placing my hand on top of hers. She looked back at me with watery eyes.
"Do you really think Ken just wants me because I'm easy?"
"What? Absolutely not. Kenny is one of the sweetest people by nature. He loves you for you,"
"Hey!" Our teacher yelled, slamming his fist against his desk, "You two! Detention! I shall not have any more disruptions in my class,"
Tammy and I sighed in sync while our teacher went back to his lesson. Fortunately, this was our last class of the day, so then we could just go immediately to the office for our detention.
And that was exactly what we did. As soon as the class ended, we walked down to the front office, though Tammy was walking kind of slowly, her nose buried in her phone. "What's wrong?"
