"Goodnight, Karen, I promise everything is okay," I was tucking Karen back into bed after a nightmare she had. I comforted her the best that I could and made my way back to my room as my phone began going off.
Ring.
I picked my phone up off of my bed and held it to my face.
Ring.
I smiled as I realized who was calling me so late at night.
Ring.
"Sick, what's up, (Y/n)? I didn't think you'd actually call me," I was trying to keep my cool. It was difficult around her.
"Kenny! Of course I'd call you! I missed you lots," her voice sounded through my phone speaker softly. I smiled momentarily but remembered the incident with Kyle.
I didn't answer immediately; I let out a soft scoff first. "How was your date with Kyle?"
"What? How'd you know?"
"He told us, of course. Well, everyone except Cartman. He sounded excited . . . So, is it official?"
"Yes! Gosh, he's the sweetest. I'm so happy that he asked me!"
"That's amazing," I said. My response was short and kind of harsh, although I didn't at all want to be rude to (y/n).
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, (y/n). Everything is alright,"
She decided to switch the conversation to Cartman, which was weird but we were able to get shits and giggles out of it.
We talked for hours, laughing and doing stupid shit. Until she fell asleep. But I kept talking.
"(Y/n), I don't think you realize how important you are to me;
Kyle was messaging me earlier, talking to me about how he was going to ask you out after crushing on you forever. . .
But it honestly feels like he's only going after you because I'm into you.
I mean, it's so random, isn't it? He's completely aware of my feelings. And you two have been close for-how long did he say?-nine? Ten years?
Whatever, that could simply be just me being jealous.
But I don't like it, regardless.
Sorry, (y/n). Goodnight. Sleep well,"
Beep.
As soon as I hung up, I regretted it. Even if she was sleeping, I was enjoying her company. And now I felt even more alone than when I was actually alone. I punched myself in the leg for acting like a fool. I might as well just go to sleep.
I turned my phone off, rolled over, and closed my eyes. But my mind still couldn't get off of (y/n).
