Author's Note: PLEASE READ: Even if you don't read the whole note, please read the warning (underlined and in bold) at the end.
Happy New Year everyone! I am so, so, so sorry that I haven't updated in what feels like centuries. I've had some ideas, but not enough content to flesh out an update. This is my newest update, and it will be at least two parts. I'm really happy with this! Part one is almost 900 words! Hooray!
Part one is not a happy story. It is very angsty. Part two will be a little bit more upbeat. We have to push through the angst to reach the happier, more tolerable ending!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Enjoy!
This is NOT a happy or a comforting story! I decided to take a different approach from what I normally write. Warnings include angst and Loki being overly harsh as a result of poor decision-making.
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!" someone shouted over the raging music.
"WHOOO!!!" a random person screamed.
Y/N threw back another shot and kissed her "boyfriend", Ryker. Loki detested the man, and 'man' was a generous term for Ryker in Loki's opinion.
"Another round of shots for my woman and I!" the boyfriend declared loudly.
The flashing lights and pulsing rock music stopped abruptly.
"I think not." Loki spoke calmly, glaring at Ryker. His dark gaze shifted to his niece. "Y/N."
"Oh, come on!" Y/N groaned with drunken irritation.
Loki stepped forward and removed the alcoholic drink from his underage niece. "Let's go home."
Y/N, clearly intoxicated, missed all of her uncle's warning signs to listen and obey. "Noooo," she slurred. "I wanna get drunk and spend time with my lover boy," she swooned, losing balance and almost falling. Loki caught her.
"You are drunk, and I do believe you've spent enough time with this imbecile."
"Hey!" Ryker spoke, offended. Loki glared at him again.
"We are leaving, now." Loki wrapped his arms around Y/N and teleported back to the tower.
"Lokiii," Y/N whined.
Loki picked her up in a bridal style carry, leading her upstairs to his room. "You won't remember this tomorrow," Loki told her, setting her down on his bed. "You scared me to death tonight, Y/N." Loki conjured pajamas onto her with his magic, along with a dreamless sleeping spell.
"'m sorry."
Loki shook his head, taking off her heels and gently wiping her makeup with a wipe.
"We'll see about that."
*
It was a rough night for Loki. Y/N was all he had left after his mother died, almost like his very own daughter. She was his best friend.
But then, Y/N became a teenager, and things changed. She was only eighteen, and she met a strange guy nearly a decade older than her online. Ryker was a terrible influence on his Y/N. Sneaking out, drinking, partying at ungodly hours of the night, leaving Loki worried to death trying to figure out where she was and if she was okay.
Now, as Loki faced his darkest demons, his mind wandered into dangerous territories. What if he loses Y/N to some reckless and youthful decision? Was he a bad uncle? Y/N loved him, told him everything, and she wanted him in her life before she met Ryker. What had changed? Was it his fault? Thinking over these questions, Loki determined Ryker was the problem. He glanced over to his sleeping niece. 'One crisis at a time,' Loki thought.
*
Y/N nearly had a heart attack when she woke up to her alarm going off at full volume. No, it had to be louder than that. Her hands reached to cover her ears as she squeezed her eyes shut to avoid the bright lights. "Stop..."
Loki strolled in casually, leaning against the doorframe. "Good morning, Princess. How'd you sleep?"
For a moment, despite her massive hangover, Y/N felt confused. Did Loki know about last night?
She squinted, using her arm to block some of the natural light attacking her eyes.
Wait a minute.
"Uncle Loki?"
"Yes, Darling?"
"Why am I in your room?"
Loki smiled, but the look in his eyes made her uneasy.
"Did you have fun, Sweetheart?"
He knows.
"I told you, very clearly, not to attend that party."
Oh, dear god, he knows.
"Loki, Tony throws parties every week." Y/N attempted weakly.
"That's different, and you know it." The look in his eyes was getting more and more unsettling. "You're eighteen, Y/N! You were so drunk you could hardly walk!"
"The legal drinking age is lower in other countries," Y/N said, not making eye contact.
"We are not in other countries, are we? You are in New York, in America, where the legal drinking age is twenty-one." Loki's voice was raised, but he was not yelling. He did not yell at his niece.
Loki continued. "You lied to Jarvis, produced a fake ID, and you snuck out to some wild party with an old man you met on Tinder. Do you have any idea how much danger you put yourself in? How badly this could have ended?"
Y/N remained silent.
"You will remain in my room for three weeks, one week for each hour of worry you caused me before I managed to track you down, wondering if you were okay, let alone alive. You will not contact any of your friends during this time, and you will never see Ryker again."
Tears welled in Y/N's eyes. She had never seen Loki like this. She expected this from her father, but Uncle Loki? This was unfathomable.
But it was still happening.
"Do you understand me?"
"Yes, Uncle Loki."
"Do you have any questions?"
Y/N decided to look up instead of at her uncle, so he wouldn't see her cry. "How will I eat?"
"I will bring you meals, and anything else you may need. You may use my washroom as you need to. Any other questions?"
"Why am I staying in your room?"
Loki paused. "I need to keep a close eye on you. I need to know that I can trust you again."
His words stung, making a few tears trickle down from her eyes.
"I understand."
He nodded. "I will be back in a little while to bring you something to eat."
Y/N curled up in his blankets after he shut the door. Realization hit her hard.
How had she screwed up so bad?
