jongho couldn't help the excitement that bubbled inside him as he rode beside hongjoong and seonghwa, the wind in his hair and the steady beat of the horse's hooves beneath him. it felt freeing to be outside of the palace walls, away from the stifling air of secrecy and fear that had settled inside.

they had been riding for hours, and the sun was beginning to set. the one named jongho urged the horse to go faster, and it responded immediately, galloping faster and faster. the horse's hooves pounded against the ground, and the landscape flew by in a blur. jongho felt a rush of adrenaline as the horse went even faster, and he felt a sense of freedom and joy.

something he could not do back at his own kingdom. despise being a heir to the crown, his parents always refused him to do any dangerous activities.  he was followed closely by hongjoong and seonghwa, on their own horses too.

"where are we going guys – we've been riding for hours and still nothing ahead of us."

"jongho stop complaining," said seonghwa as he ordered his horse to keep up with jongho's.

"the prince is so going to kill me if he sees me with penny"

penny was the prince horse, he got her as a gift for his 16th birthday party. she was a beautiful arabian horse, very expensive mare. hongjoong took her since it was pretty much the only one left back at the palace –. anyway it was better for her to be far from the palace in case something would happen to her.

"how are we sure mingi is with the prince joong? what if it's just an ambush and we're walking right into it?" asked seonghwa, being on his absolute guard not wanting to make any mistakes to be able to see his cousin once again in his life.

"you're right seonghwa, i don't know. it's just this gut feeling and i'm afraid this is the only thing we'll have to rely on."

———

the forest was eerily quiet, except for the sound of crickets chirping in the distance. the group had set up camp together, with everyone sleeping close to one another on the ground. mingi decided it was safer to stay lowkey in the forest rather than on the road. also the horses were pretty exhausted from carrying the cart, they needed that well deserved rest.

wooyoung woke up not too long ago from his little faintness. it was absolutely embarrassing – but everyone got over it pretty quickly. he was just super happy this weird doctor turned out to be pretty good after all. the prince wrists were as good as new and he felt relief. he wanted to write it down in his journal really badly but he knew he had to wait...

yunho and yeosang were currently sleeping peacefully in their little sleeping bags, right across from him. mingi was right beside yunho, also deep asleep.

ugh he wished he was them. wooyoung was having trouble falling asleep, his mind racing with thoughts of what might be lurking in the darkness, once again. he really wished he didn't have to stay there for the night but he knew mingi was right.
