CHAPTER 19

"DO you feel the same way?" Chloe blinked innumerably upon hearing Cross' question. He was staring into her eyes intently as if he was trying to read the depths of her soul. She bit her lower lip.

"Honestly, I'm really confused. I mean, yes, we met three years ago but that encounter wasn't good. I was heartbroken back then and because of what I thought you did, the pain doubled. I hated myself because I felt like I was the stupidest woman on earth for letting a total stranger used me in a way after I caught my ex cheating on me.

"Now that we got reunited again, even though we know each other's name, we still don't know each other that much. Isn't it too early for all of this? Should we wait a little longer?"

He smiled. "Too early? Oh, you don't have any idea, cariño."

"What do you mean?" He lifted his hand and gently caressed her cheek without breaking their eye contact.

"I've been watching you from a far for so long already and now that we're finally together like this, I will not waste any more time of hiding. I was never the kind of person who hides his feelings but for some reason, it's different when it comes to you. I couldn't muster the courage to approach you even though you're just a couple of meters away.

"Well, maybe because you were taken back then. Grey even warned me that if I was only playing and I was seeing you as nothing but a past time, I should just stop because he didn't want me to ruin your happiness.

"For the sake of Grey and I's friendship, I distanced myself from you and didn't do any step for us to officially meet. And now, I'm done of just watching you from afar and no one can stop me from pursuing you. I don't know what you did to me that I couldn't forget about you. It felt like you casted a spell on me and no matter what effort I did to look at other women, it was futile." He heaved a sigh.

"When I decided to replace Albert to his janitorial job temporarily, all I had in mind was to do my job and nothing else but imagine my surprise when I saw you again after three years. But the thing that shocked me the most was the fact that you were obviously mad at me.

"I was confused and my curiosity of what really happened in the past resurfaced again. But now that you finally opened up about the reason why you changed your mind about us that day, I finally understand what happened.

"I'm sorry if the conversation of Storm and I gave you the wrong impression about me. It wasn't my intention to use or hurt you in any way. It was just a misunderstanding. Next time, if something happened that you don't like, talk to me first before getting mad. I don't want that to happen again.

"I'm not blaming you for getting mad at me after hearing Storm and I's conversation because you were vulnerable back then. Your ex just broke your heart and he destroyed your capability to trust any man right after what he did to you. Now, I'm feeling so bad because I added to your heartache back then. Please forgive me." Chloe was at a loss for words as she didn't expect those words from him.
