CHAPTER 42

"I'M SORRY, cariño, but I don't think it's a good idea for us to go back there to the cabin. For now, it's better for us to just go somewhere else." Chloe gritted her teeth upon hearing that. She could tell that Cross was hiding something from her and that angered her.

She shook her head. She didn't want all these secrets anymore.

"Give me at least one reason for me to come with you, Cross. Is it worth it for me to after everything that has happened? Yes, you told me over and over again that you love me but we both know that you're keeping me in the dark. I got hurt and now confused. I don't know what to think and believe anymore." She stared into his eyes. "Who are you really, Cross Dawson?"

His tantalizing orbs were staring at her intently.

"I'm going to answer your first question first. Yes, it is worth it for us to be together until the very end because we both know that we love each other; we belong to one another. What I said about not loving you nor care about you, that was nothing but bullsh*t. Of course, I love you and I care deeply for you.

"You're my first love and I'm sure that you're the last too. I didn't plan all these to happen but I'm glad I've met you and you became a very important part of my life. You have my heart and I will never regret every moment that we spent together. Never." He took her right hand and brought it to his chest, letting her feel his heartbeat.

"Look at me, all of me and feel the beating of my heart. Even without me voicing it out, I know that you can feel that every fiber of my being screams for you. I know, it sounds corny and I hate being corny but it's different when it comes to you.

"You don't have to ask me who am I because the Cross that you've been with and you're with right now is the real Cross. I am the realest when I'm with you, cariño." Chloe could feel his heartbeat while he was staring into her eyes as if he was revealing his very soul to her through his eyes.

He looked vulnerable which was the polar opposite of how he usually was. She could clearly see how much he loved her and it warmed her heart.

She felt it too while they were making love a while ago. He made her to reach out to her heart and he succeeded. If he was only faking it then he was a master manipulator and a liar which her hear refused to believe.

It would be easier to just listen to her heart and forget about everything but she knew that she couldn't live like that. Even though she was madly in love with Cross, she had to know everything for her peace of mind. He should answer the questions that were bugging her.

She pulled back her hand. "If you really want me to believe what you're saying, then tell me why did you have to lie to your mother. Is it really that big of a deal for her to know that we're a couple? I don't get why you had to disregard my feelings just to save face to your mother."

Cross shook his head right away. "I'm not saving face, cariño. I was just doing what I thought was the best for you. I didn't think of the possibility that you might hear me and that was my mistake. I should've made sure that you wouldn't hear it because it wasn't true in the first place. I'm really sorry about that. I didn't mean every word of what I've said. I hope you believe me." Chloe saw nothing in his eyes but honesty and that subsided her anger and resentment.
