CHAPTER 58

CROSS didn't bother looking for Chloe inside her office nor anywhere in the company because he knew that she already left the vicinity. Knowing her, she probably went somewhere else to breath and calm herself down because of what just happened.

But he had ideas where he could possibly find her.

He already changed his mind and do whatever he could to protect her but at the same time, making sure that he could get the justice that his mother and brother deserved. He didn't want to abandon his promise just like that because it would eat his heart in the long run.

When the elevator opened, he stepped out in a hurry and was about to head towards the lobby when he almost bumped into someone. Thankfully, he barely managed to avoid her.

"Watch where you're going, Mr. CEO. This is not the place for some street activities." He looked up and saw her signature poker face. It was Beatrice Larsen, the wife of his father. He gathered himself together and stared back at her formally.

"Good afternoon, Beatrice. What brings you here?" She raised her chin but her eyes were scrutinizing him from head to toe in not so obvious manner but Cross could see clearly it. The same look he used to give him ever since their first encounter.

"I think it's none of your business if I decided to come here whenever I want to. Even though you're the CEO now, this is still my family's company, right?" All the emotions on his face disappeared.

"'Our company', Beatrice." He corrected.

"Whatever. Anyway, what's good with the afternoon?" He suddenly realized that even though that day wasn't very good all in all, it was still the best day ever because he received the best gift he could ever have. That was Chloe and his unborn baby and he would never let this woman destroy it.

He faked a smile. "Everything, Beatrice. Whatever our reason is for existing, we should be grateful for each passing day because of all the blessings that we received. Just like me. I just received the greatest and most precious news today that's why I'm very grateful. You should too. Anyway, I need to go." He was about to walk past her but she blocked his way.

"Not so fast." Cross thought that she would get mad but to his surprise, her lips curved with a smile. "I haven't congratulated you yet, haven't I?" His eyebrows furrowed. "Congratulations on being the new CEO of our company. I hope, you won't be a big disappointment. I mean, don't get me wrong. Larsen Corporation is a big company and everyone expects a lot from the CEO. Just like your father. He became the pillar of this company during his time as a CEO so of course, people expect a lot from you too." Cross could hint the bitterness in her voice even though she was trying to hide it. The way she said the words "our company" sounded like she was only referring to them, excluding him.

"Thank you, Beatrice. Don't worry. Being a disappointment, especially to dad, has never been on my vocabulary. We've known each other for a long time already so I know that you know my caliber. Even though I've been working behind the curtains these past few years, I know what I'm doing. I've contributed a lot to this company and I don't need to specify what those contributions are. Let's just say that those were the reasons why dad chose me as his successor." He paused for a couple of seconds before he spoke again. "See you around." Before she could react, he quickly marched his way out of the building, determined to find Chloe.
