CHAPTER 43

CHLOE felt like her whole body went rigid upon seeing the newly arrived people. Jade was with Vito and a beautiful woman who looked like a model. The type who joins beauty pageants too.

"Hello, everyone! It's been so long!" The woman said enthusiastically and greeted Cross' friends one by one before giving her attention to Claudia who seemed to be so happy seeing her. Vito on the other hand had his gaze on Chloe and she felt so uncomfortable under his gaze.

"Jade, can we talk for a moment?" Raven asked his twin sister with a serious face and before Jade could answer, Raven pulled her by the hand and took her inside the house to have a private conversation with her. He looked mad.

"I'm so happy that you actually managed to come, Paige. I know that you're busy but you still found time to join us today." Claudia happily said.

"C'mon, Claudia. Yes, I am busy alright but when you gave me the invitation to come here to Cupid's Island, I dropped everything just to come here. I mean, I've been wanting to come here but didn't have the time to. Besides that, I knew that securing invitation to come here isn't easy. Thankfully, you gave me two invitations so I gave Vito here the other one. I hope, you don't mind."

"Of course, not. I mean, Vito is Cross' brother anyway. The more the merrier." Chloe looked at Cross and almost gasped upon seeing the anger on his face. She was about to talk to him, intending to calm him down, when the woman named Paige approached them with a sultry smile.

"Hey, Cross. Aren't you going to greet me? I mean it's been a while. I missed you." She was about to give Cross a hug when he spoke.

"Paige, why the hell are you here?" His voice was firm and his eyes were squinted in obvious anger. But Paige didn't seem to mind at all. In fact, the smile on her face didn't even fade. She flipped her hair.

"C'mon, Cross. You heard what I've said, right? Claudia gave me two invitations. I mentioned about coming here to Vito and he asked me to bring him with me because he'd been wanting to visit this island but couldn't secure an invitation for some reason. And since I didn't want to come alone, I agreed to tag him along." Her blue eyes shifted at Chloe.

"Hmmm. Is she the one you're with right now? She seems familiar." She placed her forefinger over her chin while trying to recall something. "Ah! You're that celebrity, right? I've seen you once with Vito before!" Everyone was quiet while looking at them including Vito who had an unreadable expression on his face while his gaze never left her.

Chloe could feel the thick atmosphere in the air but she knew better than to let it get to her. Even though she didn't expect Vito to come here, she had to act naturally. She raised her chin proudly and met Paige's gaze.

"Yeah, I was that celebrity." She stood up without breaking eye contact with her. "I'm Chloe Winters Rosenberg. Cross' girlfriend." She extended her hand for a handshake but Paige just looked at it, didn't seem to be surprised upon hearing what she said.

"Oh, girlfriend, huh? And I thought, you were together with Vito. Or maybe he was your ex before Cross? I mean, don't get me wrong. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm Cross' ex, by the way." She even laughed and flipped her hair once again.
