CHAPTER 33

CHLOE spent a sleepless night thinking about what happened to Cross. He hasn't been responding to any of her messages or returning her calls for some reason. She felt so worried something might might've happened to him but tried her best to shake that negative though off her head.

It was almost 4 am when she finally managed to doze off but she had a nightmare.

In her dream, Cross was fell into a quicksand, desperately trying his hardest to get out of it but unfortunately, he couldn't and kept on sinking instead. He was screaming but Chloe couldn't hear what he was saying.

She tried her best to get to where he was and help him get out of the quicksand but unable to as she tried to reach for his hand but his hand just passing through hers like a ghost. Then, his voice could finally be heard and she got surprised of what he was saying.

Cross was screaming for her name and asking for her help while looking around, searching for her. Chloe's heart tightened while seeing him helpless like that but couldn't do anything but to cry as he couldn't hear, touch nor see her even though she was just right in front of him.

She woke up, gasping for air and her heartbeat was fast and hard. She really thought, her dream was real.

When she looked at the time, it was already 7 am. The first thing that came to her mind was Cross.

She quickly reached for her cellphone on the bedside table, expecting that Cross finally sent a message and she didn't get disappointed.

'I'm sorry for not replying right away, cariño. My phone's battery got drained and I only saw your text messages right now. I wanted to call but I know that you're already in the middle of your sleep. Please, don't worry about anything and just enjoy your time with your parents. I love you so much. See you soon.'

She checked what time Cross had sent her that message and saw that it was 2:45 am. What was he doing still awoke in the wee of the morning?

She bit her lower lip and pressed the call button. It only took two rings before he finally answered.

"Hello, cariño. Good morning." That was when she felt relieved. That nightmare really made her worried sick about him.

"Cariño?" He repeated when he couldn't wait for her response. Gosh, his voice was suave and manly even early in the morning. She cleared her throat and mentally shook her head when she realized where her mind was going to.

"Good morning too, cariño. I just tried calling you but I'm quite surprised that you're already awake. You replied to my messages at past 2 am and yet, you're already awake at this hour." He chuckled.

"I actually didn't sleep at all."

Her eyebrows furrowed. "Why? Did something happen?" He didn't answer right away as if he was trying to think if he would answer her question or not. Then, he released a breath.

"Yes, something happened but don't worry about it. It's nothing. I'm more worried about you. Are you okay? I'm sorry if I made you worry for not replying right away." Upon hearing him asking if she was okay, that was when her emotions suddenly poured like a water into the glass. Tears ran down her cheeks but she quickly wiped them.
