CHAPTER 52

THE NEXT day, Chloe didn't have a choice but to go to work because she had a lot of things left to do before leaving Larsen Corp. for good and relocate to her hometown.

If it were up to her, she no longer wanted to step foot at Larsen Corp. knowing that Cross was the new CEO but she didn't want to act unprofessionally.

Upon parking her car on her usual parking spot, she got out of the car and headed to the elevator when her heart suddenly started thumping wildly. For some reason, something was telling her that someone special to her heart was watching her right at that moment.

She stopped walking and looked around only to be disappointed when she saw who was walking towards her.

"Good morning, Chloe. Flowers for you." Vito said with a boyish smile and handed her the bouquet of flowers. She winced when she suddenly felt the need to throw up because of the scent of the flowers.

"T-Thank you, Vito. You didn't have to." She held the flowers as far as she could from her nose because the scent was really affecting her in a not so nice way.

"C'mon, Chloe. I just wanted to brighten your day." He looked at the way she was holding the bouquet as if it smelled bad or something. "Is everything alright? Didn't you like the bouquet?"

She faked a smile. "Sorry. The smell is just too strong for my taste but it's actually beautiful."

"But I used to give you this kind of flowers before but you never complained like this. I made sure that these roses are freshly picked too. Should I get you something else?"

"No, it's fine. I've been feeling under the weather since this morning. Maybe, that affected my senses. Don't mind me."

"Really? Are you okay now?" He raised his hand touched her forehead with the back of his hand, checking if she had a fever or something.

"I'm fine. Really. Maybe because I've been stressed out lately." He nodded his head. "What about you? You seem to be fine now compared to last week." It was already Monday. The former CEO, Vito's father, announced whom he had chosen as a successor last Friday and it brought tension between the Larsen brothers.

But unexpected, today was Monday and Vito seemed to finally be fine which she didn't expect. Knowing him, she thought it would be difficult for him to move on from that but surprisingly, he seemed okay now.

"Well, even though I didn't get the position, at least something good has happened and that's for you to give our friendship another chance. I couldn't be any happier." Yes, Chloe agreed to give Vito one last chance after he begged her for another chance.

She realized the effort Vito had exerted for her, going to Cupid's Island to warn her about Cross but she refused to listen. Now, look where that brought her. Nothing but pain and heartbreak. She would be leaving Tallahassee soon so patching things with Vito wouldn't be such a bad idea.

He promised to do his best to be a better friend this time and Chloe didn't see any reason not to accept it.

"Well, good for you. I mean, there's nothing you can do other than to set another goal and strive harder to reach it."
